The brig Emerald was an ex American vessel by the same name. She was built in 1822 at Elija Bugge shipyard in Samen, Mass. Her burden was 177 Norwegian Commercial lasts. Length was 110 feet and beam 27 feet. The ship was rigged as a brig. She was owned by the Rød brothers of Tjøme. The Emerald was wrecked in 1875. Before that she sailed with emigrants from Norway a number of times. In 1865 the Emerald departed from Christiania May 22nd, and arrived at Quebec July 18th. Mastered by capt. Rød. The passenger list is archived by the National Archives of Canada [NAC]. The Norwegian police emigration records did not start before 1867. Timeline to records. In 1866 she departed from Christiania Apr. 25th, and arrived at Quebec June 9th. She was sailing in ballast and was carrying 185 passengers. Master was capt. B. A. Rød, and she had a crew of 11. On October 17th she departed from Christiania and sailed for New York where she arrived on December 14th. The passenger list is archived by the National Archives of Canada [NAC]. In 1869 the brig Emerald departed from Christiania Apr. 15th, and arrived at Quebec May 19th. She was sailing in ballast, and was carrying 86 steerage passengers. All was well at arrival. The year the Emerald was mastered by Capt. A. E. Helgesen with a crew of 10.
