The Det Nordenfjeldske Dampskibsselskab Main Page >>

In 1890 the direction of the Trondheim based steamship company "Nordenfjeldske Dampskipsselskap", decided that they would open a regular route between Trondheim and Newcastle.

The first ship purchased for this service was the S/S Ragnvald Jarl. The "Ragnvald Jarl" was a 1.084 gross ton vessel built by Wigham Richardson & Co, Newcastle in 1890. She made her first sailing from Trondheim to Newcastle in June 1890. She was sold to new owners in 1919. Some of the ships listed from Trondheim would probably bring the passengers to Bergen, where they would board an other ship.
