According to Bjelland bygdebok, Page 561:
SØFFREN BERTORDSON blei etter Evje kb. gift 22. april 1752 med Birte Fredrichsdtr. Bjørnestøl i Hornnes, ei dotter til Frederich Tronson og Gunild Tostensdtr., som i 1759 skifta arven millom dei 5 borni. Birte er og kalla Birgitte og hadde m. a. ei syster, Ranni, g. m. Ole Osmundson Abusland.
Was Ranni a sister to SØFFREN or Birte? I always thought her father was BERTORD SØFFRENSON. The m.a. means mellom anna, but I am not sure of what the translation of that would be and I am confused by the ei. Can anyone help me understand this?
Thanks in advance

- Birte is also called Birgitte and had among other things a sister, Ranni - i.e. Ranni was Birtes sister.

Thanks for your input and help.
I looked at Bjørnestøl in Hornnes but do not see Ranni listed, and as far as I know she was born about 1717 so she does appear to quite a bit older than her siblings. It is not impossible tho I woud guess. Unfortunately the online records do not go back that far and she may have been born in 0yustad, but I do not have that information. She has always been identified as Bertosdtr, so at least that is in question now with this new information.
Fredrik Trondson 0yustad-Bjørnestøl
Han var visst komen frå 0yustad i AseraI. Han var g.m. Gunhild Torsteinsdtr.
Fredrik Tronson blei frikjend for Torgrim Åsuvson sitt odelssøksrnål. - Fredrik og Gunhild hadde m.a. desse borna:
a. Ola, f. ca. 1729 (sjå nedanfor).
b. Berte, f. 1734 i Bjørnestøl, g. 1752 m. Søren Bertoson Ask i Bjelland.
c. Jorann, f. 1737, ugift i 1759, seinare lagnad ukjend.
d. Trond, f. 1740, d. liten.
e. Trond, f. 1742, konf. 1764, seinare lagnad ukjend.
f. Else, f. 1746, g. 1769 m. Salve Olson Hannås (s.d.).
Fredrik Trondson gav opp buet sitt i Bjørnestøl 21/9 1757, var enkemann då.

Thank you for your responses.
I have the Hornes bygdebok, and I had previously found the tree you listed, but it is missing a supposed member - a woman name Rannei. That is why I am looked for the information in the Åseral bygdebok.
I have not been able to locate the book via ILL. Normally the University of MN has a lot of these books, but they do not own this one. There is a copy in UND, but they do not loan them out.
I do know about the people that will do lookups, and that will be my next stop. I beleive Lill Parry has this book.
Again, thanks for you responses.

Ole Osmundson Abusland is my 4th great grandfather.
In the original listing in the Bjelland bygdebok on Page 561 it states:
Posted - 17/11/2012 : 04:44:25
According to Bjelland bygdebok, Page 561:
SØFFREN BERTORDSON blei etter Evje kb. gift 22. april 1752 med Birte Fredrichsdtr. Bjørnestøl i Hornnes, ei dotter til Frederich Tronson og Gunild Tostensdtr., som i 1759 skifta arven millom dei 5 borni. Birte er og kalla Birgitte og hadde m. a. ei syster, Ranni, g. m. Ole Osmundson Abusland.
So, this is incorrect and as it says that Ranni is a sister to Birte, when in fact she is a sister to SØFFREN, which is what I originally thought.
I still have a hard time reading a lot of these books, but I am getting better at it. This will help me to better understand what the books say and what you have translated them as. THANK YOU! You do not know how much I appreciate it.
As a footnote: I did contact my local library and they were able to locate a copy of the Åseral bygdebok and I have ordered it. Should be here in about a week.
Thanks again to you Kåre, and to everyone else who has responded.

Fredrik Trondsen Øyestad-Bjørnestøl.
He seemed to have come from Øyestad in Aseral. He married Gunhild Torsteinsdatter. In 1749 it was held an extra trial on Bjørnestøl. It was Torgrim Asuvsen that would get back the 3 "ksk" Fredrik had purchased on "Odel". In the cort is was stated that Fredrik´s wife Gunhild Torsteinsdatter was a descendant of a Knut Flåttorp who was married to Gunhild, daughter of old Børuf Abusland who lived in the 1600s and owned 4 "ksk" in Bjørnestøl. Fredrik Trondsen was acquitted of Torgrinm Åsovsens "Odelssøksmål" lawsuit.
Fredrik and Gunhild had these children...........
"ksk" is an old measurement reg ownership in a farm.
Most farmers were partowners in several farms on that time.
"ksk" is an abbr. for "Kalveskinn" Calf skin
Odel, Odelrett, Odelssøksmål, only exist in Norway, link

To understand the family more is exiting.
It seems like Ole Åsmundsen Kalland/Abusland was son of Åsmund Olsen Abusland and unknown.
Found this online, source not given, probably from a "Bygdebook" and the Norwegian ancestor to this family, Aud Karin Eriksen, link
This info correspond with the forefathers to Knut Røysland, links don´t work but it goes like this:
Åsmund Olsen Abusland b. ca 1685 d. 1761, parents: Ole Tolleisen Abusland ca 1630-93 and Guro Guttormsdatter Kalland d. 1701.
Guro Guttormsdatter´s parents; Guttorm Tolleisen Kalland ca 1618-92 and Berte Olsdatter d. before 1692.
Ole Tolleisen Abusland´s ca 1630-93, his parents; Tollei Børufsen d. ca.1652 and unknown.
Tollei Børufsen was son of Børuf Abusland and Kari Salvesdatter.

Frederich Trondsen and Gunild Torsteinsdatter gave up the farm in 1757 (probably because of age)
The probateregister from 1759 where the heritage was shared between the 5 children.
It`s a long register where everything of value was recorded, tools, cloths, silver, copper, livestock etc. sometimes even the names of the cows were mentioned, it continue on next page.
I can´t read it, very small letters, only the names.
Frederichs wife Gunhild Torsteinsdatter (underlined) is mentioned on line 6.
Line 8; 1.Ole Fredrichsen "Myndig" (Age of majority)
Line 8 and 9; 2. Trond fredrikchsen age 17
Line 9 and 10; 3 Birgit (Berte) Fredrichsdatter married to Søren Bertosen on the farm Ask in Bjelland sogn (parish)
Line 10: 4. Joron Fredrichsdatter 21 years old
Line 10 and 11; 5. Else Fredrichsdatter age 13.
Skiftereister (Probateregister) Frederich Tronsen Biørnestøl and "hustrue" wife.
See right page here
The reason that everything of value was recorded and assessed was that the authorites should have their share.

Probateregister after Ole Osmundsen Abusland.
The content is difficult to understand.
The oldest son Osmund Olsen was heir to Abusland.
The register covers the entire right page plus a half column on the next page (367b)
Impressing that the clerk Cristen Tobiesen could write so small letters without spilling ink.
Need an expert to translate it, I`m only an amateur
Ranej Bertosdatter is on line 16.
3 Children;
Line 18; 1. Osmund Olsen age 18
Line 18 and 19; Ingeborg Olsdatter married to Lars ? Bjørndalen

It is amazing the amount of information in the Probateregister. This will take a while to figure it all out. I may have someone locally that can help me.
I don't agree that you are an amateur. With what you have sent me I consider you an EXPERT

This is good enough.
Helping Norwegian Americans finding their Norwegian roots is a great hobby that gives a lot of joy back
I thoght I could find Rannei´s probate from 1802 or later, the problem is that these pages jump from parish to parish varying between 1798 and 1802.
You are welcome back when it suits you.
