Anyone out there with findings in this parish? I'm looking for connections to an Ole Nilsen born 1823 with family at the farm Sveian, Røising. He had a son, Joakim Skjelstad born 1854 maybe with U.S. descendants.

Steinkjær became independent parish shortly after the 1865 census.
You will find 3 Skjelstad farms, 7 Sveian farms and 5 Røising farms in Sparbu parish in Nord - Trøndelag County (Fylke).
Use contain /inneheld, not equal/er lik. http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebMeta.exe?slag=vismeny&fylkenr=17&katnr=&emnenr=&aar=&dagens=&knr=1731

Maybe it wasn´t this you was looking for, but Joakim Skjelstad?

Thanks Kåre,
I've been trying to find Joakim Skjelstad in the 1900 telling as he was Joakim Olsen, 12 years old, in the 1865 telling. He became owner of Vestre Skjelstad and I just can't find that farm in the1900 in Sparbu or Steinkjaer. Where should I look?

Hi, this must be your Joakim Olsen in census-1900.

Living on the Skillegrindmoen farm in Skei outside Steinkjer. Married to Ingeborg Jonasdatter, and having children Anna b.1888 and Ole Ingemar b. 1898.

The Skillegrindmoen farm must have been located in the community Skillegrind (nowadays spelled Skjølågrinda), about 12-15 km south-west of Skjelstad.

Hi Christer,
you are right about Skjelstad, the farm seems to have vanished before 1900, likely bought by a new owner and changed name.

Dis Norge and Petter Heier is listed on Skjelstad in Nord-Trøndelag: http://www.disnorge.no/sfbasen/card.php?uid=2245

Skjelstad have not vanished, and still exist as of today. In 1900 the farm can be found under Skei.

Hi Jan Peter and Christer

Now I see, Skei sokn became independent parish in the 1901 census.

Sometimes to find out about where to go to enter the correct parish its´s like a walk in a Labyrinth.

Happy for you Christer.

Thanks a lot, Jan Peter and Kåre, I just received info from a bygdebok which confirms what you gave me. I'm very grateful for the map as I would never have found the new name for Skillegrindmoen on my own. Regarding the different surnames, I now understand why there is such a thing as a bygdebok...
