My great aunt came to America and settled, I believe, in Hope, ND. Her name was Elinor or Elenora Larsen. She may have married into the Hilton family. Her sisters were Lara (Laura) and Helene (Helena) Jacobsen (married name). Helena died and my grandmother, Laura Larsen Brustad, brought her daughter, Mimi Marie Jacobsen, to America in 1917 when she was four years old. I think she had siblings. Elenora's father's name was Lars Larsen and they probably lived in Kristiania. Any help finding any of these folks would be appreciated. Mange Takk! Mary Brustad Keys

Maybe the Mimi Jacobsen who came to US is the one who travelled with Dagmar Elvida Berntsen leaving Kristiania Oct 31 1918. Both Dagmar and Mimi lived in Schæffersgt. and Mimi was 5 years and going to her aunt in New York. See here
Mimi Marie was born March 15 1913 and baptized June 1 1914, see #23
her father was Otto Marinius Jakobsen and the mother Axeline born Larsen. They also had a daughter Margit Viktoria born in 1910.

Thanks to all of you for the information. I have some conflicts with dates as it seems there are three birth dates for Hans Larsen and none of them the same. Also the information I have regarding Mimi, and I got this from a ship roster via Ellis Island, is that she came over in 1917 with Lara Larsen and Henry Halvorson (my father). Lara then married Thorvald Brustad in Hamilton but I don't have the date. I appreciate all of your replies. Thank you. I'll be back, I'm sure.

Thank you all for your responses. Do you have any information on Lara Larsen and Henry Halvorsen, her son, born in 1897? I don't have her birth date but she was probably born around 1877. She, Mimi Jacobsen and Henry came to America together, according to the Ellis Island ship records, in 1917.

Hi,
I found one Laura Larsen (40), born 07.Aug.1876, from Kristiania, Norway, who arrived New York on Apr 30, 1917, sailing on the ship "The Bergensfjord", departing Oslo on 15-Apr-1917.
Her destination was a "friend Gustav(?) Andersen in Hamilton.

Travelling with her is one Alfred Henry Halvorsen, planing mill worker, born 28-Mar-1897.
Residence for both is Herslebsgt. 10 IV, 2nd stairway, Kristiania.
Closest relative to Laura (From Ellis Island records): Father Hans Larsen in Ullensaker.

Laura Helene Amalie Larsen
Born 07-Aug-1876
Chr 15-Oct-1876
Conf 04-Oct-1891
Residence: Bjønum, Vestre Bærum, Akershus
Parents: Hans Larsen & Eli Halvorsen

According to her chr record, her parents Hans Larsen (b.1847) & Eli Halvorsen (b.1853) got married on 17-Apr-1876.

A lot of things fits with this woman:
1) Her name is Laura Larsen
2) Age is approx right
3) She is born in Christiania
4) Destination was Hamilton
5) Her father is Hans Larsen
6) Her mother's lastname is Halvorsen
7) She is travelling with Henry Halvorsen, born 1897

But:
1) Her mother's name reads Eli, not Line
2) Her father's occupation reads Lumberyard worker, not mason
3) Her father is listed as born 1847, not 1853 as in Eleonore's chr record
4) Her mother is listed as born 1853, not 1857 as in Eleonore's chr record

Which records are wrong? :-)

This could be Laura and her son Henry Halvorsen in Christiania, census-1900. Laura is married to one Gustav Olsen, but I doubt he is Henry's father... why would he be named Halvorsen?

The first information about Laura IS my grandmother. I found in the other posts, there were differing dates of birth, etc. My father was born out of wedlock and his father's name was Hans Halvorsen. It had nothing to do with her mother's maiden name. She never married anyone else until she married Thorvald Brustad in Hamilton. I've seen the record about Gustav Olsen. I don't believe that was my Lara unless she went to live with him and never revealed that to us. Grandma was rather unconventional. She liked bock beer and wrestling and she worked cleaning fraternities until she was 86! Are there any listings of Lara's siblings?

Did Mimi Marie (called Marie at times in records) Jacobsen come to America on the same ship, the Bergensfjord, at the same time Henry and Laura did? I have one ship record from Ellis Island that indicates she did. But I see from another post above that she may have come a year later to live with Grandma Brustad. This gets confusing.

Good findings, eibache!

There's no doubt that Laura Helene Amalie Larsen, born 07-Aug-1876 by parents Hans Larsen & Eli Halvorsen is Laura Larsen Brustad.

But what I can not understand, is how she is related to the Mimi Marie Jacobsen we found, born 15-Mar-1913?

Mimi's parents are Otto Marinius Jakobsen born 30-Nov-1880 and Akseline Johanna Theodora Larsen born 11-Dec-1880.

Shouldn't Akseline have been a sister to Laura?
Akseline's parents are Hans Larsen & Lina Halvorsen, and it does not look to be the same Hans Larsen who are Laura's father.
However, there's a lot of different age info about Hans Larsen & Lina Halvorsen in the chr records for their children.

Are where are these people in census-1900??
