I'm looking for imformation on the family of my grandfather, Jens Edvardsen Tronnes. He was baptized at Stor-Elvdal church, near Koppang, in the Osterdalen district of Norway on 24-Jan-1874. His parents were Edvard Jensen and Berthe Knudsdatter and had siblings Einar, Berger, Julia, Clara, and Berthe. Jens settled in or near Neilsville, Crookston County, Minnesota in about 1890. In 1903 he moved to Alberta Canada. I think some or all of his family may have emigrated to the US as well, but have no proof of this. I have found Jens baptism record on-line in the Stor-Elvdal church records, but can find no other information about this family, including searching the University of Tromso Norway census information.
Any help or ideas appreciated. Kelly

If you've found evidence that he and his family resided in Stor Elvdal perhaps it is time that you look for the information that might be available in the bygdebok for that area -- "Bygdebok for Stor-Elvdal" by Hans S. Hanssen.
Information about how to use a Norwegian bygdebok and how to obtain one for temporary research purposes included here:
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~norway/articles.html

The 1875 census database is not complete for all areas of Norway -- did you look for the older members of the family in the 1865??

The family appears to have left Norway 25 May 1888 through the port of Oslo when Berger, Jens, Einar, etc. were still very young --

Thank you! This is the first information confirming Jens' mother and siblings emigrated. What a wealth of information for me, and the search goes on. I will follow up on the Berger who died in Polk Co. thanks again.

Hi,

The age "22" and the "middle" initial "A" are a bit off on this entry from the 1867-1930 Kristiania emigrants list but interesting since Ada, Minnesota is found in Norman County, the county just south of Polk county...

1887 154 28 1 07.07.1887 07.07.1887 Edvard A. Trønnæs g Arb m 22 Storelvedalen Ada Minn A. Sharpe Thingvalla Ppd

The Iron Range Interpretive Center has a database of Minnesota Naturalization records and an Edward Jensen Tronnes is in the listings twice from Polk County. Search here:

Hi,

The headstone transcription in Shelly Cemetery, Norman County for Edward (Anderson?) Tronnes reads:
Edward Tronnes
1850-1922

He lays next to:
Karen Tronnes
1870-1961

and
Selmer Tronnes
25 Oct 1908- 21 Jan 1944

In St. Petri cemetery there are:
Anders Tronnes
23 June 1813-26 Nov 1903
Anna Tronnes
10 Feb 1816-26 Mar 1898

& numerous other Tronnes'

Better to concentrate on Edward Jensen Tronnes.

Hilsen,
Jackie M.

You can also find that
Christen Christensen was baptized Oct 18 1789.
and that his wife Pernille actually was baptized Petronelle on Nov 23 1794, her parents were Tosten Pedersen, Berg and Gunnor Erichsdatter, you will find them in the 1801 census at Berg Væstre.
quote:
marriage of his parents - 1821 Dec 28
Even Olsen Bye 34 & Inger Andersdatter Aadalseie 26
the date is actually Dec 28 1820.
Evind Olsen was baptized Sept 4 1785 and his parents were Ole Gundersen and Else Evindsdatter.
