Lars Johannesen, Holestølen and Anna Tollefsdatter, Slatten were married Dec 8 1881, see #8.

Anna was born June 30 1861, see #19.
Anna, her parents and siblings in 1865.

The confirmation record for Lars is #14 - he was born Oct 28 1854.
Lars, his parents and siblings in 1865.
The baptismal record for Lars is #81 - note the date Oct 28 1854 - the family tree says 1864 which is wrong!
His father, Johannes Larsen, was born Sept 30 1825, see #73, parents Lars Knudsen and Kari Johannesdatter, Holum in Haavet.

Lars Knudsen, Holum and Kari Johannesdatter, Berg were married Nov 19 1814, see #32.

Kari Johannesdatter, her father and siblings in 1801.

Hi Michelle,

Reinton's Folk og Fortid i Hol V page 142-143 has quite a lot of information on Johannes Larson Bolstad. His 2nd marriage was to Gunhild Andresdatter Myrestølen also from Hol b. 1891. Their children:
Amanda Larson b.1919 Saskatchewan; m Frank Moon; 2 boys Raymond James Moon and Glen Moon
Alfred Rheinard Larson b. 1916; married wife's name not recorded, 4 children not named
Gilman James Larson b.1918; died as a seaman in China
Henry Edwin Larson b. 1921; married 1 Marion Havill 2 sons James Henry Larson b. 1942 & Robert Larson b. 1944 with her, married 2 Helma Leidig and had 2 adopted children with her, not named.

This family lived in Spokane and Seattle, mostly. The second wife Gunhild died in 1950. The source for information on this Johannes Larson family is listed as an inquiry from James Henry Larson. Are any of these children's /grandchildren's names familiar to you?

Hmm... Verna should be his 3rd marriage then?

From the Ellis Island manifest, it looks like his destination in 1911 was cousin Mrs Brita Grotte in Northwood, Grand Forks, ND. "Johannes S. Bolstad" is recorded as arrived New York on The Mauretania on Nov 17, 1911.

Census-1910 for Loretta, Grand Forks, ND shows this:
John R Grotte, 1860, Norway
Bretha Grotte, 1867, Norway
Thorbjorn Grotte, 1890
Carl Grotte, 1891
Gerhart Grotte, 1897
Lenard Grotte, 1898
Helmer M Grotte, 1901

Census-1900 shows Bretta born Dec 1866 and emigration 1885.

It must be this one:
Brita Torbjørnsdtr
Birth: 06 Dec 1866, Christening: 06 Jan 1867, Ulvik, Hordaland
Parents: Thorbjørn Helgesen & Gunver Olsdr

Britha Thorbjørnsdatter Maurseter emigrated July 7th, 1884.

Hi,

Thorbjorn Maurseth was born in Hol and moved to a different district and then to America. He and Gunvor are buried in Bethania Lutheran Cemetery in Grand Forks County, North Dakota as Thorbjorn Maurseth 1842-1931 and Gunvor Maurseth f. 7 Okt 1835- d 19 May 1914.

Torbjørn is mentioned in Hol V, first page 368-369 as son of his parents Helge Pålson Slåttun (some other Paulson relatives of this family covered in other topics and posts on this site) and Turi Aslesdatter Villandssmoen. and then owner of Slåttun and page 374 as outmigrant to Eidsfjord

Anne Tolleivsdatter was born during her mother's, Turi Aslesdatter's, widowhood to her & Tolleiv Arneson Lilleslett 3 Apr 1861, so she is half sister to Thorbjorn Maurseth, the father of Britte Groth.

Britta's husband John Grotte is identified as from Nordland.

Where can I find this?

My John Larson Bolstad was married to Verna May Turner(a divorced women herself, first marriage Hollingsworth) in 1925 as "John Larson" from Spokane. Quite possibly as Jan Peder and you Jackie pointed out he had 3 wives. Crazy.

None of the names you listed are familiar. Where is the source listed above? I am not understanding where to look.

I am not familiar with the source in the following quote. Can you please include links if found on the internet to all your sources if you can.

Hi Michelle,

These pieces of information are from the set of bygdebøker covering Hol, Hallingdal, Norway. Book V seems to be of the most immediate interest you, but the set consists of 7 books + a seperate index book (which is highly useful)

The full title is Folk og Fortid i Hol, ætt og eige, V written by Sigurd S Reinton and Lars Reinton, published 1972, Oslo The index is Volume 8 by the same authors.

You can probably access the books through InterLibrary Loan. I understand that the Concordia College Carl B. Ylvisaker Library in Moorhead, Nunnesota responds to ILL with bygdebøker in their collection.

I understand that you may also request page copies (for a fee) through ILL at the discretion of the participating library.

Another possible source for the books would be through the LDS Family History Center or the Salt Lake City Library. If the books have been microfilmed you can borrow through the church's system or visit Salt Lake City.

The books are also still in print and were (the last time I checked 2002) available for purchase through Holsbank in Hol, Hallingdal.

Anne Tolleivsdatter's mother's first family are found on page 368-369 & 374. Her father Tolleiv Arneson Lilleslet was also a widower and his first family and Anne are found listed on 694-696.

Anne's baptism record in Hol #26:
Source information: Buskerud county, Ål, Parish register (official) nr. I 6 (1849-1864), Birth and baptism records 1861, page 219.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=1149&idx_id=1149&uid=ny&idx_side=-257
Permanent imagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20051109020257.jpg

Turi Aslesdatter's birth family are found in IV, pages300-301 ad infintium almost. Hol is a small place and most everybody ends up being cousins (sometimes to themselves!) of one degree or another.

Anyway, have you found John in the 1930 census or other resources (obituary?, church record? )with which to confirm his identity?

Jackie M.
