Hi,

Not having regular access to Ancestry, I only occasionally get to use. There is a database of naturalization records for Washington at Ancestry. In it there is a Gunhild Anderson Larson b. 3 Dec 1891 in Sundalen sic, Hol Hallingdal who became who filed her declaration to become a US citizen on 25 May 1938 in Seattle District Court. She came to US in 1911, was married to John Larson Bolstad in Sept 1913 in Winnepeg, Canada and is divorced from him (so before 1938). Mother of 4 children: Lillian, Alfred, Gilman and Henry. According to the form her husband's whereabouts are unknown.

She didn't die in 1950 but did in 1951 on 10 March and is listed in the indexes at www.familysearch.org as "Jane A. Larson" A brief obituary for her occurs in the Seattle Daily Times on 15 Mar 1951 and names only 3 surviving children: Lillian Moon, Alfred R Larson, Henry Larson. Her parent's names are a bit of a muddle, though. There was a brief mention of a "Jane Larson" in the Holsboka but it was unclear if it was meant to be Gunhild or a daughter-in-law or something other.

By the by, John, Gunhild (as Gina) and Lillian (as Amanda) and all are Larson & are found in Last Mountain in Saskatchewan in the census of 1916 also on Ancestry.

In addition, Gunhild is found in the 1930 census as Jane Larson, divorced mother of the 4 children Lillian, Alfred, Gilman & Henry in Seattle working as a laundress. John is not with the family

So Johannes Larson Bolstad was "free to marry" sometime before 1938 1930. I guess the divorce records of Spokane County Washington might be worth looking at.

Hilsen,
Jackie M

Take a look at the death record of this Anne Tolleivsdatter. Her husband's name is Peter not Lars. Lars Johanneson Bolstad died in 1924. So this woman is less likely to be Anne Tolleivsdatter, mother of Johannes Larson Bolstad.

Michelle - have you tried getting more info through the US records? Assumining he applied for naturalization, the Petition package available will contain date and location of arrival and likely the name of the ship. This generally needs to be ordered off microfilm in D.C, for $7.50, but Ancestry.com (14-day free trial) will likely have the index card to his Petition & record of Naturalization, which indicate the point of entry and ddate. It seems that the more specific info we can provide, the easier it is for the Norwegians to check the documents available to them. If he completed a WW I draft registration and/or enlisted, that is likely to show his town in Norway.

Made a trip to Spokane today and I was able purchase a copy of the divorce file of John Larson and Ginna (Gunhild Andersdatter/Anderson) Larson. Ginna was the plaintiff in the divorce. She originally petitioned for divorce 8 Sep 1924. The marriage that took place between John and Gunhild on 10 Apr 1913 was finally dissolved 14 May 1925, the very day that John married Verna May (Turner) Hollingsworth in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho. My great-grandparents were involved in a affair before the divorce was petitioned for by Gunhild. Not the happiest of information but still my family history nonetheless. It all fits. My great-grandfather indeed is Johannes Larsen Bolstad, born 15 Sep 1886.

The divorce file states that Amanda Lillian was the oldest born about 1915, then Alfred Reinhart 1916, then Gilman James 1918 and Henry Edwin 1921.

I am trying to find his marriage to Ambjørg Olsdatter Kvelprud in Ulvik and haven't found it in the parish registers. Could they have married somewhere else? Any help would be appreciated.

I have, but that death record is not for Johannes Larson Bolstads mother either.

Sorry for posting the wrong baptismal record for Anne Tollefsdatter, who was confirmed in Ulvik (look at marriage record) see #4 - she was born April 3 1861 and the parents were widower Tollef Arnesen and widow Turi Atlesdatter.
Anne Tollefsdatter was born out of wedlock, see #12.

(I have deleted my earlier posting.)

Trying to find Tollef/Tolleiv Arnesen with his parents or his wife and children. I have not found him as of yet. All I know is that he was born about 1815 in Ål. Once again any help would be appreciated.

Einar gave you a link the 1865 census entry for the widowed Tollef Arnesen and his daughter just above. Einar's posting was dated 10/06/2011 : 15:16:54 and he edited that posting 10/06/2011 20:37:08.

To find other than that you'll need to dig into the local parish church records.

Hi,

Folk og Fortid I Hol, V, page 118 gives his name as Tolleiv Arneson Lilleslett and birth date as 6 Apr 1817. His parents are named as Arne Person Lilleslett b 1776 d. 6 Feb 1851 and Margit Larsdtr øvre Sand b. 1773 d. 5 Feb 1862. They should be findable in Aal (ål) parish registers (prob. in Hol annex )church registers at the digitalarkivet Lilleslett is a farm in Hol.
Tolleiv b 1817 also had an older brother named Tolleiv b. 1814 who died in 1815.
