Hey guys, I am looking for the birth record and emigration record of Johannes Johannesson Raa. My records show that he was born in Rå, Lærdal, Norway I think but I tried looking up the parish record but couldn't find it. His mother and father were Johannes Henrikson Haugen (Ø.Voll) I believe and his mother was Metta Olsdotter Glithaug. Apperently Johannes was married to Anna Larsdotter Voll (Larsen) and also emigrated that same year. Can ya help me?

The marriage record above gives you her birthday, her father's name and it seems obvious that they have a connection to a farm called Voll or vold. Can't you look for that yourself?

I have a question Lucas.

When Erik Eriksen passed Lærdal in 1857 Johannes was 13 and 21 when Erik´s parents Erik Levordsen and Ragnild Knudsdr. passed Lærdal in 1865.
Perhaps he meet the long way travelers in Lærdal.
Did they meet in the US.

I am not sure actually. That's a very good question. I know that Eric Levordsen and Ragnild Knutsdatter went to Houston County, Minnesota when they immigrated. They landed I guess in Quebec, Canada. Anna immigrated and I have her on the 1880 census records in Crawford County, Wisconsin. in 1875, I have Erik Levordson and his wife in Houston County, MN, but after that, nothing. I do not have the date of death for them. Might be a coincidence. Erik Ericksons great grandson married Johannes Johannesson Raa & Anna Larsdoots grand-daughter

Also, i notice the note on the far right. What does that say?

Parents: Lars Agrimsen Lysne & Mari Andersdatter Øvrevold.
They were not married.

The note says: Information given by Peder Agrimsen Lysne

(Lysne=Ljøsno today).

Thanks Jan! Wow really? Not married? really? I have Lars Agrimson Skorpa (N.LJØSNO) had children with two people, one was a woman named Ingeborg Monsdatter Haugen Tynjo born in 1815 and died in 1901. Not sure where she was born and died. They had one child named Mons Larsson Skorpa Midtre Ljoesno. I know nothing about him. Later, Lars (Who I thought was married to Marie Andersdotter Hageland (Oevrevoll) and I believe they had only one child as far as I know. That would be Anna. I do believe that Marie Andersdotter, (Later called Mary) came to the US and is buried next to Anna and Johannes. Her last name is Wold. I do not think she married? Here is a picture of their gravestone.

Fyi, the notes field are used in case of illegitimate children, and contains the name of the "informer" of this indecent behaviour, ie. who informed the priest about the father of the child.
By looking at the name, it looks to be his brother.

Lars Agrimsen could have married Mari Andersdatter later, but they were not married when Anne was born in 1849.

Marie Andersdatter Vold (Mari Andersd. Øvrevoll) (51 and not married), emigrated on 07 JUN 1876. She is registered in the churchbook on May 31st.

The birth record for Anne clearly listed her as illegitimate.

Good information about translating the formats of Norwegian parish church records during various time periods, many of the basic terms used and understanding how to use the information should be studied at this web site -
