I am sitting here only with my iPad, now documents and a bad memory. Olaus Hansen was born at Skjellerudsveen in Faaberg. Johannes, his brother, was 10 years in 1855, and it does not add up with the 1900 Census. I guess Johannes changed his name to John in the USA. But why take the name Bloomshield? The rest adds up. Marie used the name Blomshield, and my mother's writing about the artist and New York is right.
And he should have been rich, which is also right. There was a kind of nobel family - lord -in out family, called Hummer (lobster), and Olaus used Hummet as his family name for some time. But why did Johannes use Bloomshield? What does that mean? Is it possible to find any family after John Wesley. This is getting very interesting, and you are doing a great job.

According to the 1865 Census posted by Jackie, Johannes was 10 years old in 1865. That would make his birth year about 1855. John H Blomshield in the 1900 US Census has a birth year about 1857. I would say that is quite close.

On Ancestry.com there is a Family Tree for Carl Spurgeon Blomshield. It shows a wife, Mary Ellen Welch, 1897-1974. And two children, Harry Wesley Blomshield, 1920-1987, and John Bryant Blomshield, 1920-1981. Harry Wesley married and had one son Harry Wesley Blomfield Jr. 1948-2000, lived in and died in Texas. Nothing further about John Bryant in this Family Tree.

Here is a query by a Scott Thomas. Certainly seems as if he is searching for the origins of John Hansen Blomshield.

Nils, there is a large amount of information on the Internet about the descendants of John H Blomshield. For example if you go to the web site Find-a-Grave and enter in Blomshield you will be given seven names, all from Texas. I think all of them are either descendants of John H or married to descendants of John H Blomshield.

I've looked at the two references the 1865 census and the leaving from Ringsaker record. The information on Johannes Hanson is not a good match to the fellow in Michigan calling himself Bloomshield:

This is the 1900 census listing:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M91V-YHG

John Bloomshield's date of immigration is not 1866 but is 1882. And other records don't match either:

Here is John Bloomshield's marriage record. His parents names are given as Hans Bloomshield and Lena Huff.

The original post gives this information:

John Luther Hanson Blomshield
Scott Thomas (View posts) Posted: 29 Jan 2003 2:43PM
Classification: Query
Surnames: Hanson, Hansen, Blomshield, Blomskjold

Looking for information or points of contact for research on John Luther Hanson Blomshield, born near Lillehammer, in the province of Hamar, Dec 20, 1856. Attended public schools, the enrolled in the Military Academy of Norway at Frederickshald, graduated in 1878, civil engineer. Emigrated to Bay City, Michigan, USA, around 1880-1882. Earliest signature by John H. BLOMSKJOLD. Not certain about the name Blomshield, should research on Hanson, with a later change. Blomshield appears in 1900 US census.

In that era how many Norwegian- Americans attended schools in Norway?

Those are I would think the same people as in your post of the 1865 Census.

They were Hans Olsen and Lena Andersdatter

Indeed and very interesting # 3 Johannes b. 20 Dec 1856 Fåberg:

Source information: Oppland county, Fåberg, Parish register (official) nr. 6A (1855-1867), Birth and baptism records 1857, page 30.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8935&idx_id=8935&uid=ny&idx_side=-34

Parents' names difficult to read but appear to be Hans Olsen and Lena maybe Christiansdtr. Someone else please take a look at the names, also the farm name seems to contain a ____ttsrud combo.
