Perhaps there is another spelling of Bratrud?

Here is a story Google found:

MOE, John J., department store; born
in Norway, Oct. 23, 1858; son of Jens
L. and Johanne (Botterud) Moe; edu-
cated in public schools iia Norway.
Came to America, 1S81, and located at
Hillsboro, N. D., where he filled posi-
tion of manager dry goods store for 7
years; was for three years conducting
a general store at Twin Valley, Minn.,
established 1887, as Johnson & Moe; lo-
cated in Duluth, 1891, and is resident
partner and general manager of firm of
Johnson & Moe, wholesale and retail
general merchandise. Has been member
board of education, Duluth, since 1898.
Republican. Methodist. Married at New
York City, 1903, to Miss Katie Sands-
mark. Club: Commercial. Recreation:
Fishing. Office: 2102-2108 W. Superior
St. Residence: 2207 W. 3rd St., Du-
luth.

And so I looked at the Digitalarkivet in the 1900 census for botterud, then botrud and found this:

http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=2&filnamn=f00521&gardpostnr=80&merk=80#ovre

Please note the head of the household was born Faaberg 1840

Here is Kristian Larsen's baptism #143:
Source information: Oppland county, Fåberg, Parish register (official) nr. 5 (1836-1854), Birth and baptism records 1841, page 43-44.

Here is a database at www.rootsweb.com including Kristian Larsen Roverud and his family. Kristian's parents are not named.

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=46396787&id=I09372

Here is a rootsweb database in which a Keith Botterud b. 1911 d. 1993 parents' are listed as Andrew and Lillian Botterud. No other info on the parents but Keith was born in Livingston county, Montana:

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=sharoner39&id=I459

This Andrew Botterud was born about 1883/1884 probably Clark County, Wisconsin, seems a real stretch to make him an uncle to Hans and unknown if he was resident of North Dakot 1905ish.

Andrew's memorial at www.findagrave.com:

Here is a link to the page which shows Hans Oleus Aasen's destination:

http://www.ellisisland.org/search/shipManifest.asp?MID=05488120970901904960&FNM=HANS&LNM=AASEN&PLNM=AASEN&first_kind=1&last_kind=0&RF=3&pID=102387170580&

Here is Hans Olaus. Aasen leaving through Kristiania:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=55&filnamn=emikra1&gardpostnr=152574&merk=152574#ovre

Of the handful of those leaving from Faaberg, Hans is the only one headed to North Dakota.

I can find John Moe in the 1900 US Census living in Duluth, Minnesota. However if he came to America in 1881, and lived in North Dakota until only 1898 he isn't going to be part of any Census record for the North Dakota time. Also would Hans Aasen be trying to get to him in North Dakota if he was already gone to Duluth by then.

1900 United States Federal Census
Name: J J Moe
Age: 41
Birth Date: Oct 1858
Birthplace: Norway
Home in 1900: Duluth Ward 7, Saint Louis, Minnesota

Gender: Male
Immigration Year: 1881
Relation to Head of House: Head
Marital Status: Married
Spouse's Name: Louisa W Moe
Marriage Year: 1880

It would appear that John Moe and Lisbet Jensdatter could be half siblings. Both have a father Jens with Lisbet's listed as Jens Torgersen and Johannes listed as Jens (last name difficult to read) but different mothers. Here is the birth record for Lisbet. See #39

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8928&idx_id=8928&uid=ny&idx_side=-69

Could someone with better eyes than mine take a look and see what is the last name listed for Jens.

Olav Thorstad does not know the name Brattrud or any name like it. I have found out that John Blomshield was in Norway in 1933 and that he was onboard a Djunke, and there are 3 articles about him in a newspaper, and will go to the National Library in Oslo next week to see the articles. Øyer/Øier is north of Lillehammer in Gudbrandsdalen. My fathers family comes from Øyer, and I will look onto it when i get home next week.

Well I don't know how good they are but it looks like #39 Lisbet's parents are Jens Torgersen and Marthe Kristiansdtr Brotterud.

His parents are Jens Larsen Øvremoen & Johanne Torgersdtr

John J. Moe appears on a list of members of the Gudbrandsdalslaget published 1925-1926 with the name "Johannes Øvermoen", the address of 2207 W 3rd St, Duluth, Minn.; and a year of migrating to US as 1881.

Thanks Jackie, that did it. Here is John Moe and family in the 1865 Census. Interesting there is also a Lisbet in the family, born on Dec 24, 1855.
