Yess, now I can use the ELCA :-)

I did not find anything of interest, but a goldmine even!!!

It was quite normal that they change their names, I have not been able to locate John Seaverson, but I have 2 or 3 who maybe can be the right one, the problem is that I have found a birthdate, but no-one of those I found in the curchrecords here, have the same birthdate.

Seaverson John b.10/9/1847 d.1/29/1891 43 Landstad, Pennington, MN

Yes Jo* Siv* b 1847 produces lots of candidates, fewer if limited to Johan.

I think the dates you posted are from the pchs.org database and the day and months are written in English style month first and day second.

Just wants to tell that I am quite sure that I have located the right John Seaverson (in Norway Syverson).

He was born in Aadalen like Erick (Anna`s second husband), and went for Amerika together with his parents, and one sister in 1867.

He was born same year as Erick too, I guess they were friends....

But of course I am only 99% sure, because I need the last %, like someone telling that yes he married a girl from Øystre Slidre f.ex.. the woman I help have order their (Anna and John) marriagelicense, I hope their faters name is written :-)

Well, put each of the possible candidates's family member names and data up and see if something pops!

This one?

Here is a possible family for Ole Torgrimson Fjerdingsbraaten using last name Odden in 1880 in Mower county:

Same family in the burials at Bear Creek Lutheran:

Bear Creek Lutheran - St Olaf Lutheran - were church names I had in mind earlier (a few allied congregations shared pastor and shared churchbook, but I'm confused re specifics) when I earlier mentioned the ELCA churchbooks. I believe those books include attendance and offering records, possibly confirmation records for the children who were young in 1867, certainly baptismal records for the children born to Ole and Ingeborg in Minnesota (Mike Oiseth cites those baptism records; they could include John Seversen as a godparent). So all those records are relevant; probably too soon to say "nothing of interest" within. They are really hard to search. Lots of the content is not indexed and a big pain to locate the relevant pages. I am recalling from memory, from a past project I helped with.

VERY interesting bio of Ole Torgrimsen Odden just posted by Jackie:
Wife Ingeberg Seversen. Emigrated 1867. Born 10 October 1835 to Torgrim Andersen and Segrie Halvorsen. Children of Ole Torgrim, Sever, Halvor, Anton, John, Simon, Emma. (First 3 match the Norwegian family emigrating in 1867). Siblings to Ole, Anders, Carolina, Halvor, Sarah, Simon, Bertha. So all the pieces are here to confirm (by birth record etc) that the emigrating Ole is the same as the Ole in Grand Meadow.

Jane you are right about the church records. A John Syverson was one of the faddernes for Simen Odden who was born 24 Dec 1869. But I'm going in through Archives.com and that is a tougher search engine to deal with than Ancestry's version. It would be nice to find a marriage in there for John and Anne!!!

A John Syverson was faddernes to a son Johan b. 23 Mar 1872 , bpt 14 Apr of Ole Torgrimson and Ingeborg Syversdatter.

But no luck on the wedding. The dates appear to be covered but no marriage for a John and Anne. The other problem with the records are no parents are named, no birthplaces, etc. So it might not have been much help even if it had been there.

That's progress! Yes, John and Anne marriage would be a great find. Presumably mastokk2 and collaborator have ordered the civil marriage record. This would be church record.

Bio here of Gilbert Erickson Haugen:
http://oldtrunksandwornshoes.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html?m=1

Gilbert Erickson, or Haugen...was born in Aadalin, Ringerika (sic), Norway... trained as a tailor... to USA 1864... lived and farmed with brother near Grand Meadow, Mower, Minnesota... married Bertha Seaverson... Children Edward, Annie, Christina... Bertha died 1883 ... Gilbert and children moved to Thief River Falls area (Pennington county).

Sounds familiar.

Bear Creek Cemetery in Grand Meadow is final resting place of a number of Haugens. Included names correspond with this family in Aadalen, living at Hougen in 1865. If this is Gilbert's family, he would be Gulbrand in this census. Gulbrand, age 23, works as a Skrædder -- tailor.
1865 census:

The parents Erick Ericksen Haugen and Kirsti Nielsdatter emigrated with some of their children in 1869, bound for Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
