Yes, the Runyans I looked at were Yankees or English or similar in background. "Rundunn" sounds a lot like Runyan. There are many Rønnings and Rønningens in USA; some are known in America by their patronymic only. Fox River settlement in Wisconsin was led by Ole Rønning (later spelled Rynning). A quick 3-second Google search brings up a Herbjorn Johnson Rønningen and a Gullik Johnson Rønningen. Herbjorn lived in Ridgeway, Iowa. Neither would be related to Betzy, but certainly that's a plausible possible name for her.

Well here is something weird. No farms in Hordaland that start with "Rønning" in the 1865 census:

farm name gard: rønning, rønningan, rønningen, rønningenspladsen, rønninger, rønningerne, rønninghaugen, rønningkjæret, rønningløkken, rønningsaasen, rønningsbak, rønningsbakken, rønningsberg, rønningsberget, rønningsbraaten, rønningsgjerdet, rønningshaug, rønningshaugen, rønningsløkken, rønningsmo, rønningsmoe, rønningsmoen, rønningssletten, rønningsstuen, rønningssveen, rønningstad, rønningstadengen, rønningstøkket, rønningsveen, rønningsviig

Maybe some with rønning as part of a longer name or perhaps a different spelling?

Okay here's another way to look at it. Last name including "Rønning"

etternavn: frønning, grønning, grønningsæter, rønning, rønningen, sørvigsrønningen, trønningsdahl

I wish you would try harder.

So it looks like that idea is going nowhere.

Okay, here's an off-the-wall possibility, #32 Berthe Johannesdatter b. Ringebo 21 Feb 1850 on Randklevrøningen to Johannes Erlandson.

Source information: Oppland county, Ringebu, Parish register (official) nr. 6 (1848-1859), Birth and baptism records 1850, page 42-43.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8926&idx_id=8926&uid=ny&idx_side=-21

Her name is not Betsy, her patronymic is not Johnson, her birthdate is not 28 Feb 1850 (but close) and the farm has rønngen as part of it's name, and her place is not Bergen.

I wonder if she's got legs....

Mother Ingrid Hansdatter...One of the baptismal witnesses is Ole P Røbakken, Rønnoug (sp?)

Is this Johannes in 1865 in Ringebo:
1865
Johannes Erlands. , Huusfader, Huusmand med Jord, e (Enke/widower) , age 48, born in Froens Prgj [= born ca 1817]
Guri Johannesd. 19
Berthe Johannesd. 17
Hans Johannes. 14
Gunhild Johannesd. 9
Eli Johannesd. 6
--all children born Ringebo Prgj.

and maybe the same Johannes in 1875 in Ringebu?
1875
Johannes Elandsen, married, Husmand med Jord, b 1816 Froens S. Prgj.
Marit Andersdatter, hans kone, b 1827 Froens S. Prgj.
Amund Engebretsen, Marits Søn, Hjælper Foreldrene, b 1851 Froens S. Prgj.
Hans Johannesen, Jernbanearbeider, Østerd. b 1853 Ringebu
John Johannesen b 1869 Ringebu

Also in Ringebu in 1875 there is a
Berte Johannesdatter, Tjener/servant, unmarried, occupation Budeie, b 1850 Ringebu.
She's working in the household of Halvor Engebretsen.
If it's the same girl she's not in Iowa in the 1870 census.

Bummer, no legs. She was one of 17 in the 1865 census whose last name started with "Jo...." who lived on a farm containing "Rønning" who was born in 1850 + /- 2 years. There were none of that description born in Bergen and Berthe was the only one whose first name started with a "B"

In America Betsy can be a name by itself but most often, I think, a nickname, like Betty, of the name Elizabeth. I wonder if that's true in Norway? The name I've seen in America among Norwegians changed out for Betsy is Birgit.

At worldconnect at rootsweb checking for Norwegian names changed to Betsy in America found these examples:
Borghild, Brita, Breita, Bertha, Barbro, Brynel, Brynhild, Bernella

Just a thought when I saw a record on Family Search.
Alexander Anderson and Betsey Johnsons daughter Anna Anderson married Charles Miller in Boone, Iowa Feb. 3.1894.
The grooms father is John Johnson ???

I know there are lots of John Johnson in America, but the first that hit me was;
The grooms mother Helma Carlson was widowed and married John Johnson.

Was John Johnson Betsey Johnsons brother?

Interesting, John Johnson might be findable in the 1895 Iowa state census... There are tons of John Johnsons just in Boone county alone, let alone any other county in Iowa.

Another remotely possible, #106 Bereth Johnsdatter b 28 Feb 1848 on farm "Ertzgaard", parents John Peterson and Sigrid Bjørnsdatter.

Source information: Nord-Trøndelag county, Stjørdal, Parish register (official) nr. 709A14 (1845-1858), Birth and baptism records 1848, page 48.

Sorry having problem to copy and paste the link will try again. No go on try 2.

This may be Bereth in the 1865 census as foster daughter to Jon Jonson on Hegre in øvre Stjørdalen.

Here is another possible: #44 Britha Johnsdatter b 25 Feb 1850 Hosanger, parents are John Anderson & Martha Knudsdatter Totlandsvig:

Source information: Hordaland county, Hosanger, Parish register (official) nr. A 8 (1849-1863), Birth and baptism records 1850, page 15.
Permanent pagelink:

There were 808 children born in Bergen 1850.
The only girl born. Feb. 28. was;
Georgine Wilhelmine, father; Jørgen Wilhelm Rudoplp.
The link to children born in Bergen 1850

"Betsy Johnson" em. ca 150 years ago.
An option is that she was born nearby Bergen.
Another option is that she was born on a farm that contains the name Bergen.

I experienced the same earlier this year helping a woman in USA where Bergen was stated as birthplace on her ancestor, but she was born on farm Berge in Voss parish, but em. via Bergen.

Betsy R. Johnson may also indicate that her father was R. Johnson.

We have perhaps mentioned this candidate before?

Kristine Elisabeth Eliasdatter b. on farm Bjurbekmo Feb. 28. 1850 in Nord Rana.
Parents; Elias Johanesen and Rebekka Christensdatter.
She was conf. 1865 #30

I can`t find her in the 1875 census for Nord Rana. The parents still lived on Bjurbekmo.
