Lorne -
In Heddal/Hitterdal, Telemark, Norway you've entered another district which has a bygdebok which has been copied to microform. The same book by O.H. Holta as is discussed above -- “Hitterdals-Boken: Gaarde og Slegter”.

This book has been copied to microfiche by the LDS Family History Library and can be ordered to any of their family history centers near to you.
https://familysearch.org/search/catalog/144819?availability=Family%20History%20Library

I've used in the past myself. I found the style just a little different than others I've borrowed but still very very useful.

I have this new information from a cooperator doing a look-up in Sauherad Bydgebok for me. I'm trying to confirm that my 3rd Great Grandfather Johanes Halvorsen born 1793 and married to Gunild Nilsdatter Kleven had parents Halvar Olsen born 1764 and Liv Johansdat. born 1776. Everything seemed to be in place until I received the information (copied below) which indicates that THEIR son Johanes Halvorsen born 1793 married a Kari Jonsdat. NOT Gunild Nilsdatter Kleven. Seems I've got the wrong lineage for MY Johanes Halvorsen. .... Any help on this please.

Halvor Olsson 1767-1835 was married 1793 to Liv Johannesd. From Tveiten (Sundsgvaala) 1771-1843. Ch: 1)Johannes 1793-1874, see next…

Here the book lists the rest of the children.

Johannes Halvorsson 1793-1874 was married 1835 to Kari Jonsd. From Aasen 1796-1871 (dotter of Jon Sveinungsson Aasen and Haelge Auversd. F Evju) Children: 1) Liv 1837-70, unmarried, 2) Halvor born 1845, see next. On the farm there is a family bible which Halvor has written in.

… Johannes halvorsson sold the farm in 1867 for 1975 dlr. To his son. Halvor Johannesson Akerhaugen 1845-1919, married 1866 to Gunhild Johannesd. From Sudistugu Haukvik 1835-1906. Children: …3) Johannes born 1871, see next, 4) Halvor born 1874, to America.

Please note that there is no mention of Johannes Halvorsson 1793 going to America. The only one is Halvor Halvorsson born 1874.

Searching close to home here is a Johannes Halvorsen , 10th one in the far right column of the right hand page:

Source information: Telemark county, Bø, Parish register (official) nr. 5 (1785-1815), Confirmation records 1804-1806, page 291-292.
Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=7917&idx_id=7917&uid=ny&idx_side=-148

He is on Rødklev which is a farm under Østerli.

Possibly him in 1801:

Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=7967&idx_id=7967&uid=ny&idx_side=-122
(There is a Jørgen Halvorson age 16 working for the farm owner of the farm the family was on in 1801)

They had a Johannes baptized the 15th Sunday after Trinity in 1787 in Seljord, the fifth entry on the left side:

Permanent pagelink: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=7967&idx_id=7967&uid=ny&idx_side=-131

Do you have a list of Johannes' and Gunhild's children and their birthdates in order of their birth? Who were the bondsmen for Johannes' and Gunhild's marriage?
