Hello
Can anyone help me find information about my husband's great grandfather? I have the marriage certificate for his second marriage in New Zealand in 1889. At that time he was 49. He was born in Gjerpen, Norway. His father was Lars Sivertsen, a farmer and his mother Maline Gurine Sivertsen. Her maiden name was Olsen. I am not sure if I have got Maline's second name correct as it is hard to read the handwriting on the marriage document. His first wife was called Marea and she died in New Zealand in 1887. I don't know anything else so I don't know if he came to New Zealand on his own, with parents, or with Marea.
My husband and I would love to know some more.

This could be the father of Lars Sivertsen in the 1801 Census. Lars was not yet born, but Sivert was living on the Solie farm in Gjerpen, Telemark. He was single at that time.

Here is a good candidate for the baptism record for Sivert father of Lars.

Thank you all very much. So much information so quickly. I am astounded!
Although there are qualifications like "probably" the information seems quite credible to me. So exciting. I will be sharing this information with all of the family.
We will be in Europe again some time in the future and so maybe we should visit some of these places. |

Here on the Gamle Gjerpen website (old Gjerpen) the family of Lars Sivertsen, Engrav is discussed:

Says that in the church book record of the family incoming to Våle in Vestfold Lars is noted as Lars Sivertsen Riis, if I understand correctly (I don't speak Norwegian and understand only a little), that daughter Inger Karin 1837-1905 lived in Oslo (Christiania), died in Moss. Says Lars and wife had a son Ole Larsen born Jan 1833, died Dec 1833. Often parents name a child after an earlier child who has died, and your Ole may be a namesake for this brother.
