Just to answer another of your questions, JaneC, Ole's death record says "Norway" for place of birth but on the 1889 marriage certificate Gjerpen written very clearly. The only unclear bit of writing on the certificate is for his mother's name where the l and i are sort of run in together.

Wow - nice addition olapaaola.

Hi Heather - thanks for adding that. As you can see, we're having trouble finding Ole Larsen (Enggrav) emigration record. We also have not found him in the 1865 census. Several "candidates" to be your Ole Larsen have been checked out from the 1865 census - and found to be NOT your Ole.

So from New Zealand it would be nice to have information on the woman beside whom he is buried. Is she Marie Nilsdatter?

Ole's brother Simon Larsen is another person who could be followed up. Don't know where he is either, in 1865.

Simon Larsen born 07 May 1830 in Gjerpen, Telemark, Norway
Simon

Inger Karine Larsdatter born 12 February 1837 in Gjerpen
Inger Karine

Anne Kirstine Larsdatter born 02 May 1845 in Gjerpen
Anne Kirstine

Hi JaneC
I could attach a pdf of the marriage certificate but I don't know how to. I have a pdf of the death certificate also. I don't think Ole was particularly involved in a church as the marriage was at his home. By the time he was buried, cemeteries were run by local authorities so I don't think I would find church records. I have a jpg of the cemetery record but don't know how to attach that either. I have clicked on the image button in the "format" line but just get so I don't see how I can get the file from my computer.
I have only found the one marriage record for Ole in New Zealand so I think Marea/Maria came with him.
I am very happy with the amount of information we have got. Historical immigration passenger lists of NZ arrivals are being made available on line all the time as people transcribe them. Some lists were lost however so we may never know the exact date.

I am curious to sort out Lars Sivertsen's occupation
Eibacher posted about the family moving to Waaler (Våle) in 1856 and said carpenter - for Lars I presume.
For the 1865 census occupation for Lars is "Skomagerarbeider". What does that mean please?

Wonder if Wilhelmine Larsen is connected to Ole? Or not possibly her in the 1875 census:

So far I can not help you find Ole Larsen, but I can tell you that most of what is posted here is correct. His sister Inger Karine who died in Moss is my great grandmother. Her grand daughter went to New Zealand in 1908. I always thought the family had a friend who was from NZ, but it must have been because of relatives that Inger Karines grand daughter went to NZ in 1908
