...in a place named Verdal in North-Trøndelag - which is north of the big city Trondheim. Her parents were Elling Sevaldson and Ingeborg Larsdaughter. I have initially written that she was born on July 1, 1851, and she was baptized July 27th - I think I have read - in 1851. Her confirmation took place October 6, 1867. She gave life after her own pregnancy to a new daughter called Inga Eline July 15, 1880, and this baby was baptized August 22 the same year. At the same place in this minister-book, the minister has written that Pauline Ellingsdaughter emigrated to USA in 1886 or 1887. It has not been easy for me to find this - so that is why I am asking you to help me.

| Now I started to wonder - what is a baptismal attest? I have in fact been wondering what the date in March in 1895 is connected to baptism. And in connection with Pauline's name, the text in the book says that she went to America in 1896 or 1897. That is what I'd like to get an answer to! |

A scenario I could see happening is that Inga Eline is in some other place (such as America) and because she left without getting her documents from the pastor originally, when she turned 15 and was going to go to confirmation she needed the dates and info for wherever she was going to go be confirmed.
Here are an Inga and Pauline combination in the 1900 US census of approximately the right ages who came about 1887:

A baptismal attest is a paper from the Priest, confirming the date of birth for the person in question.
A document that could be needed in the new world, to state who you are. Similar to a passport in our days. It could also be needed in case you re-located to a different parish/municipality in Norway. |

Here is a Inga Eline Hans so maybe she used her fathers name. She is only 9 years old so she must not be traveling alone. The year is 1889.and the destination is Eau Claire.

This looks promising for her death record. Birth date seems correct. Eau Claire is partially in Chippewa County. Must have married at some point in time.

Man, Anton, I think you got her!
In the ELCA records of confirmations at Eau Claire Wisconsin Inga Eline Henrikson was confirmed on 8 Sept 1895. Her parents are named as Hans Petter Henrikson and pige Pauline E[ ] and she was born at ____rdalen. This is in the same church as Gustav Ellingson was having babies baptized in.
Even though some critical things are not legible in the entry Henrikson is her father's patronymic!
In her obituary it says she is survived by 7 children, 30 grand children and 24 great grand children and 1/2 brother Melvin Henrikson, half sisters Mrs. Morris Hagman, Mrs. George Schaaf, Mrs. Louise Buntz, Mrs. Mildred Franks.
So her father came to US and she went to live with him and his family. Here they are in 1910:

Thank you very much for the mostly correct answers you have given me. It was even special that you found that Pauline from Verdal in North-Trøndelag died at home in Norway in 1888! I never knew that on beforehand. The only person who is not one of my relatives, is the Brevig-person. This is an absolutely different place in Norway. But it is also fine that you found "my" Pauline's Brother Gustav as an emigrant!
