This might be Andrias as a widower in the 1891 Census. No other family members present

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01052763002980

Probably Marthe Engebrethsdatter died in 1888.

Thank you everyone for all your help.

I am in the process of obtaining a copy of Christine's Baptismal Record from Minnesota, USA

I think the only remaining question is "When did Birgit leave Norway to go to USA?"

Events we know:

She was born Birgit Knudsdatter1866 in Norway
Appears in Norway census 1865 and 1875
Had Christine in 1890 in USA
Married Andrew in 1891 in USA
Died in 1906 in USA

I guess we may never know that answer.:-((

Does anyone know why there wasn"t any census done in 1885?

There was a census done in 1885. But it probably wouldn't be of the sort to help you in any way.

Hard to find her departure. The rather large Fjeld family left Christiana on May 29 on the Island bound for Chicago.

We have discovered a document on New York Passenger Lists 1820-1891
that may be Birgit on the State of Alabama ship's records 1879 age 17
Her name is in the middle of the document.

10 lines above her name shows an

Ole Knudsen age 28
Birgit Knudsen age 21
Knud Knudsen less than 1

I find it odd that at her age she would travel alone. She was most likely going to New Sweden, Minn where her uncle Asle Asleson lived.

Is there any mention of these Knudsen's in her family in Norway?

I would attach a screen shot of the document but I don't know how!!

This is likely the emigration record of Birgit leaving Norway.

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/8/pe00000000438965

Date is the same 5-16-1879.

Seems to be a large group from Numedal

All going to Faribault Minn.

I googled Faribault, MInnesota and it is only 55 miles to New Sweden. I think that perhaps was their destination. ??
I wonder does Ole born 1851, Birgit born 1858,and baby Knud born 1879
appear on the 1885 or the 1900 Minnesota census?

Here are utflyttedes from Nore in Numedal an apparent family group #5&6 and 7&8
SAKO, Nore kirkebøker, F/Fc/L0003: Parish register (official) no. III 3, 1878-1884, p. 99
Quick link: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20060607150245

Knut Olsen the father is on the list but not sure that mom Anne Gullicksedatter but Birgit and Gaute are probably siblings #7 and #8
