| Well there is a Wilhelm Frederick Wist in the WWI draft registrations in Montana. His nearest relative is a Gustav Wist. Birth year is 1886, don't remember the date. |

A strange business with this Vist/Wist/West family. In the topic on Konrad Josef Vist, Jackie posted a link to the 1910 US Census for Conrad Wist which seemed to fit the guy the poster was seeking. Now here is a record for Fred Wist in the 1910 US Census, same location in Montana and a person below him whose name is Conrad West, both came over in 1903. Or perhaps 1907 see above record for a different year.

I think both Wilhelm Fredrick and Gustav Wist are from Germany.

This is likely Fritjof Petersen Wist leaving in 1907

Still a mystery to me, none of this fits very well with the Fred West married in Jefferson Montana in 1925 posted by Jackie.
Well this may shed some light on the mystery. it is the 1891 Census for Sparbu and it shows a Fridthjof Wist with father and mother same as for Konrad Josef.
1891 Census
So two children are missing from the 1900 Census that are found in the 1891 Census.
Gulløv Fredrikke and Fridthjof
Fridthjof is living with a different family but still in Sparbu at a neighboring farm in 1900.

Fridthjof was born March 2, 1890, Parents are Magnus Pedersen and Margaret Kristofferdatter.
