The tough one here is of course the wife Johanna. I see in the 1860 Census that there is a Christopher Christopherson living with the family. What do you know about him.

Thank you for this. I did have quite a bit of the information and am aware of the large amount available in the USA, but it is Johann Mickelsen that I am looking for. I wonder if there is any information through Christopher Mikkelson. It is confusing to me because of the similarity of their names. I thought it odd to that there is another individual listed as contributing member of the household with virtually the same name. Did he have a twin? Perhaps a twenty year older one? Maybe he is an Uncle? Thank you. Jodi

In the 1860 census Christopher Christopherson 50 yrs old is only listed ONCE! Christopher Michelson also only once. See the original -
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M4LT-ZP5

Go through the many US documents available and gather ALL the information about "Johanna" available. Then condense that into a concise but throrough summary and present those facts here to those of us experienced in searching Norwegian records.

The Census data show that the oldest daughter was born in Iowa.

Emma Dorthea Mickelsen
in the U.S., Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Church Records, 1826-1945Name: Emma Dorthea Mickelsen
Event Type: Baptism
Birth Date: 19 Sep 1857
Baptism Date: 12 Oct 1857
Baptism Place: St Ansgar, Iowa, USA
Father: Christopher Mickelsen
Mother: Johanne Christophede
Church Name: First Lutheran Church
Church Location: St Ansgar, Iowa

And a second daughter

Name: Mine Lovelle Mickelsen
Event Type: Baptism
Birth Date: 4 Jun 1860
Baptism Date: 5 Oct 1860
Baptism Place: St Ansgar, Iowa, USA
Father: Christopher Mickelsen
Mother: Johanne Christophersdr
Church Name: First Lutheran Church
Church Location: St Ansgar, Iowa

I would guess from these records that the wife is named Johanne or Johanna Chritophersdatter ie father has a first name of Christopher in its the various spellings that one usually finds.

An interesting family is that of Hans Christopherson. He and wife have baptism of a child in St Answer Iowa as did Johanne and then he has a confirmation for probably the same child in Freeborn County Minnesota where Johanne and husband ended up at. Maybe we can find a connection between the two.

Baptism Date: 5 Jun 1859
Baptism Place: St Ansgar, Iowa, USA
Father: Hans Christophersen

Church Location: St Ansgar, Iowa

Name: Antonette Christophersen
Event Type: Confirmation

In an obituary mounted at the FAG for Johanne her death date is given as 10 Feb 1892 and an age at death of 69 y 2 m 8 d which my program calculates to a birthdate of 2 Dec 1822.

There are about 6 churches in the Steele, Freeborn, Mower county Minnesota and Worth county Iowa which were served by a sort of early circuit riding pastor Clausen. That might be the connection.

Interesting in that there is a Johanne born in Nannestad in Dec of 1822. Nannestad is where her husband was born.

Please clarify which information in this post is usable for Johanna Mickelson. Is it that she is or is not a candidate ? I have her buried in Freeborn County Freeborn Minnesota in February 1892.

Found no farm named Eseth but did find a couple named Eset and Nordby under Eset. Eset vestre and Eset østre in Nannestad (which would be interesting since Peder identified family tree which gives Nannestad as origin for the family) and the others as located in Ullensaker / Ullensager.
