I think this is the Holger Henrichsen Stoltenberg I have been looking for. He likely is the same as the one in Bergen with the proviso that the birth year of the Bergen candidate is off by ten. I think he is also the brother to Brede mentioned above.

Holger Henriksen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Holger Henriksen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 24 feb 1761
Baptism Place: , Aas, Akershus, Norway
Father: Henric Holtenberg
FHL Film Number: 123206

#29

He may be the father of Sara Marie Jacobsdatter Stoltenberg but if so why she used the name Jacobsdatter is a mystery to me.

They had five children, Joseph Albert 1776, Anna Magdalena 1778, Friderica 1778, Andreas 1779 and Maria Elsabeth 1782.

Perhaps Friderica used the last name of Stoltenberg at her confirmation in 1796

Maybe the name is Solvsberg? Baptism of child Friedrich 4 Feb right hand page:

Well, maybe Anne Maria Josefa was a "merry" widow and had something going on between 1784 and 1788? But there appears to be no Sara baptized between 1784-1790 in Kragerø.

Hattemager Ole Hansen Myhre is on a list of people who owed something to a Henrik Stoltenberg who died 24 September 1831 in Drammen aged 56.

Survivors of Henrik were Nicoline Gjessing f Stoltenberg and Carl Stoltenberg. Henrik's wife Anne Margrethe Hvidfeldt f Harbou died earlier in the year before 19 May age 55.

Good information. I have thought that Anne Nicoline Stoltenberg is the Anne Stoltenberg found in the baptism record of Josefa Bernadine, daughter of Ole and Sara Maria.

#35

As usual more digging finds more information. Here is a discussion of Henric on Forum. Have not yet seen any information on a Sara Maria.

Link

I think that Henric is a younger brother of Holger. It is Holger that seems to be the mystery man in this search as very little is known of him and very little can be found on him. Did he father Sara Maria, did he have an affair with Anna Maria Josefa von Koss, etc.

If he did then Anne Nicoline would be the cousin of Sara Maria and Henric would have been her uncle which might help explain the connections that keep popping up.

Also this passage from the Geni Tree

If I translate it correctly would indicate that there is a half sister to Sara Maria named Anne or Anna who is a second unknown daughter of Holger and she is the witness at the baptism.

I do love a mystery

In a newspaper memorial to him published in Norske Intelligens-Sedler on 19 Aug 1801, Henrich Stoltenberg is mentioned as b 19 Jan 1724 d. 7 Aug 1801. He is called Sognepræst til Aas. His first wife was Sara Marie f Plade who died 17 July 1790 and they had 10 children, 7 who survive. His 2nd wife is Christiana Theodora b Grogaard who survives him.

I've been looking for combinations of Jacob and Stoltenberg and found this family at the Wallø Saltverk in the 1801 census. Of course Sara Marie is not named and it would be a bit hard to imagine Maren Stoltenberg having a child at age 49 and then not having the child with her in 1801 but at least one of the children in the family went by Jacobsen and Stoltenberg even though her husband's name is Lerche, 35 year old Vinsent:

293 Jacob Lerche
63 63 - - Huusbonde Begge i 1te ægteskab Forvalter ved saltverket
294 Maren Stoltenberg
63 59 - - Hans kone Begge i 1te ægteskab -
295 Maren Jacobsdatter
63 27 - - Deres børn Ugivt -
296 Laurine Jacobsdatter
63 25 - - Deres børn Ugivt -
297 Andrea Henrica Jacobsdatter
63 22 - - Deres børn Ugivt -
298 Karen Petronele Jacobsdatter
63 34 - - Deres børn Ugivt -
299 Anne Jacobsdatter
63 30 - - Deres børn Ugivt -
300 Vinsent Jacobsen Stoltenberg
63 35 - - Deres børn Ugivt Adjungeret forvalter

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01058294002505

So perhaps Sara Marie Jacobsdatter Stoltenberg is like Vinsent sporting a different surname and using mother's maiden name of Stoltenberg because of greater stature of the name?

I noticed for this couple a baptism record from 1768 for a Friderich. One of the fadder is named Jacob Stoltenberg.

Link

Lots of records on this guy. I notice that for the baptism of Vincent he used the name Jacob Lerche Stoltenberg. And one of the fadder also sports the name Jacob Stoltenberg.

Link

Lots of Stoltenberg as witnesses, Mathias, Anders, and Jacob

Bottom of second column from left

Link

I also noticed that when I first looked at Stoltenberg in this record I would have read it as Holtenberg. So I wonder if the earlier records I posted as Holtenberg are actually just a misreading of Stoltenberg.

All the Stoltenbrerg's seem to stem from this fellow Vincents Henrichsen Stoltenberg born 1694, Tonsberg, Vestfold, Norway.

Geni Tree

Jacob Lerche married Maren Stoltenberg daughter of Vincents Henrichsen Stoltenberg according to the Geni Tree. As you reported earlier she died in 1816 at age 74 so if Sophia Maria comes from Jacob and somebody it would have to be that she was born before 1790 or the women was not Maren.

Thanks everyone - as Lyndal says 'love a mystery'!
I have rechecked some paperwork we have where Sara Marie is clearly Sara Marie Stoltenberg although in birth records that you have provided for their 7 children, she is shown as Maria Jacobsdatter for the eldest son Hans Bernt Myhre, Sara Marie Jacobsdatter for the next three children and the Sara Marie Stoltenberg for the final three. We have a bible with a handwritten note in the front to her son Helge dated September 1848 signed S M S. So it appears she progressed to Sara Marie Jacobsdatter Stoltenberg over time. I am satisfied this is Ole's wife however.

Am now focusing on Hans Kristensen Myhre and his wife Berthe Eriksdatter and family and what may be his second wife Martha 2 Olsdatter nee Glimstad. Now this is a mystery.

Can someone advise me how to attach a photo to these forum pages? - no luck so far !! The 'insert image' above doesn't seem to accept?

Thanks everyone for your input so far.
