Here is the Ancestry baptism record for Inger Brigitte.

Name: Inger Bergette Osmundsen
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 6 mar 1830
Baptism Date: 17 mar 1830
Baptism Place: , Lyngdal, Vest-Agder, Norway
Father: Osmund Bergsen
Mother: Anne Tonette Jacobsdr

The parents had several children. This is the only other girl I found.

Name: Ingebor Osmundsen
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 18 des 1823 (18 Dec 1823)
Baptism Date: 25 des 1823 (25 Dec 1823)
Baptism Place: , Lyngdal, Vest-Agder, Norway
Father: Osmund Bergsen
Mother: Anne Tonette Jacobsdr

#37

So unless Ingebor starting using the name Berthe Gurine this line of a Zacahrias marrying an Osmundsdatter sister of Berthe Gurine does not work.

This forum has helped far beyond my expectation. Ship’s carpenter Simon Erlandsen is no longer the mystery. Bertha Osmundsen’s origins remain obscure.

That looks promising. The baptism could have been a year after the birth or, seems unlikely, Bertha could have misreported her birth year. Or the date could have been erroneously entered or erroneously transcribed. The key will be finding her sister who also emigrated to Chicago and the kirkebog out migration record.

This very long post leaves me somewhat confused. Who is the child of Hans Fermedahl? I do not see a Hansdatter or Hansen.

Similarly, some other relationships mentioned do not specify who and to whom the relationship pertains.

Hans Tellefsen Fermedahl married Susanne Marie Torjesdatter the widow of Niels Christian Christensen in 1796.

Name: Hans Tellefsen
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 19 feb 1796
Marriage Place: Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Norway
Spouse: Susanne Marie Torjesdr
FHL Film Number: 127314
Reference ID: 2:1LFQRZL

They had at least one child, who died shortly after birth. Tobias born 18 nov 1798 and died 12 apr 1800. A burial record exists for a Christiane born in 1794 died in 1799 exists but the burial record may not be correct.

I do not see in post by ToreL a reference to a Hansen or Hansdatter so I am a little confused as to what you are referring to. There is a Edel Kirstine Hansdatter listed as a foster child in the 1801 Census record for Hans Fermedahl and family.

Tobias

Baptism for Christiane

Christane

Name: Christiane Hansdatter
Gender: Female
Age: 5y
Birth Date: 1794
Burial Date: 25 mai 1799 (25 May 1799)
Burial Place: Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Norway
Father: Hans Tellefsen Fennedahl
Mother: Susanne Marie Christensddatter
FHL Film Number: 127314
Reference ID: b 5 p 15

Original burial record

The father of Christiane may very well be Neils Christiansen and the mother's last name in the burial record could be incorrect.

Silly me! I had misread stepfather as father-in-law.

Splendid!
That fits better than making Simon’s daughter Gurine the Lena in Chicago who is the widow Evans in 1880.

I have got to think that this is Bertha Tollokson in the 1880 Census as a widow. Last name is badly transcribed but there is Lena Evans as her widowed daughter. Or this is actually Bertha Simonson and daughter Lena as was surmised by Jackie back on page one of the thread.

Or is there only one Betha who was married to Tollok Tolloksen in Norway emigrated to Chicago where Torkleee died and then Bethe married Simon Erlandsen.
