So Kittil b 1828 who moved to America... Did he move with his siblings Jon and Anders , or a different Jon and Anders? Cause you say in last post Anders died in Norway but i found a record that matches for Jon and Kittil with the right time line on age and imigration in us census for Jon being his brother...

Nevermind it says that Kittil Gilbertson is a boarder age 52 at last birthday with head of house being John K. Gilbertson age 54 at last birthday. John's wife is Bertie M.
Age 48 at last birthday and son Ole age 20 at last birthday in Minnisota June 1880 census. Do you think this is the right Kittil?

John and Jon, only various spellings.
John and Anders Rĝnningsdalen were John Olsen Rĝnningsdalen b. 1860 and his brother Anders Olsen Rĝnningsdalen b.1858.

You*re welcome.
Most of the info I have from a book "Gransheradsoga" not online i America, page 650 pluss/minus and 695 link
Gudbrands wife Gunhild Olsdatter Buen came from farm Bolkesjĝ Nedre, born on fam Nisi.

A curiosity, one of the authors is Ketil Nisi.

To check for living descendants out of Norway I've had a look at Gulbrand (b.1856) Gulbrandsen's siblings, but I haven't located any of them after the 1865-census. Would you know if any of them settled a family in Norway?

Since I couldn't locate any of his siblings, I went one generation back, and looked at his parents; Gulbrand Gulbrandsen Kasa & Gunhild Olsdatter Buen.
You have to confirm this yourself, but I guess this Gunhild Olsdr is the one born 24 Sep 1825 by parents Ole Gregarsen & Gunhild Torsdr.

A possible older sister of her is Joran Olsdr, born 20 May 1823. This seems to be Joran in Census-1885. Joran is married to Mathias Martinsen and she has a daughter Mathilde, born 1868.

Likely Mathilde in Census-1900 and Census-1910

Mathilde is married to Nicolai Harm (1853 - 18.08.1906), and have 3 children:
1. Martin Oskar Harm (1888 - 01.06.1907)
2. Johanne Ovidia Harm (19.03.1893 - 06.02.1995).
3. Magnus Harm (1898 - 30.06.1917)

Oldest son Martin emigrated to North Dakota 16.03.1907, but died there only a few months later from gastritis.
Youngest son Magnus died in Kongsberg at age 18½.
But here it should be possible to find a norwegian relative:

Johanne lived to be almost 102 years old, and died in Kongsberg only 23 years ago. She left 4 children, numerous grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren behind. She was married to Nils Tangnĉss Sĝrensen (28.07.1897 - 06.07.1969) from Kongsberg. Newspaper articles says Johanne has a daughter in America that came over to Norway to celebrate her 100th birthday in 1993. One of the daughters is named Reidun. Another daughter Astrid lived in Notodden, Norway, married to Ingulf Diesen (26.11.1928 - 03.03.2015) . Her two sons are named Kjell and Ivar, Ivar being married to Gullborg. Ingulf was a significant pioneer, nestor and chief of the Norwegian missionary union. He was a principal at the school Ansgarskolen, a local pastor for a number of years, author and as both missionary and national secretary of the Norwegian Missionary Confederation.

Johanne Sĝrensen nee Harm (left), pictured a month prior to her 101st birthday in 1994.

A picture of Astrid and her husband Ingulf Diesen found in the magazine for The Mission Covenant Church of Norway, december 2008.
4 children and 3 grandchildren also pictured. You can find the woman to the right on fb.

Oh wow! Thank you! One more question... Is Gulbrand and Gudbrand considered the same name?
