Gulbrand, Gullbrand and Guldbrand are variants of the name Gudbrand.

I haven't seen "Sorlie" mentioned anywhere in this thread. Where have you gotten that spelling?

If you mean Storlie vs. Storeli, I believe it's the same farm. Census-1865 says "Storeli". What sources says "Storlie"? Today I guess it's the location called "Storli".

I urge you to contact any living relatives mentioned here, either in the US or Norway.
You shouldn't expect the first one you contact to know about Gulbrand Gulbrandsen @ Storeli 1865, but maybe the person can guide you to a familymember who knows his ancestry.

You should also contact Gransherad History Society, who are the real experts on the local history for the area. The front page contains the email address to the leader of the Society.

I looked up the name Storlie on Google and it cane up with a lady born in norway with Sorlie as a last name
