I am trying to find out information on the parents and grandparents of my great grandmother Martha Karine Jorstad who came to Chicago. She was born in 1853 and died in Chicago in 1928

Her husband was Axsel Ludvig Naesvold son of Jacob Næssvold and Maren Marie Dahl - they lived in Trondheim.

My grandmother wrote that Martha was born on
Birth 9 DEC 1853 in Solør, Norway but I have also been led to believe that Martha also came from Trondheim where most of the family seemed to come from (Long ago someone lived on gulbrandsdalen farm but I have given up finding that) The family came over to the states when Martha was a young girl.

If anyone has knowledge of this

Marte's father died before 1865. Probably her as a foster daughter of Ole Bergersen:

A little harder to follow the father of Marte, since his name of Hans Olsen with a father Ole Olsen is hardly unique. But the marriage record lists the birthplace of Hans as Faaberg, Oppland and the farm as Snaghoel. There is a Ole Olsen born about 1766 and married to a Martha Olsdatter living on Snaghoel in the 1801 Census.

1801

There is a Family Tree on Geni.com for this family. The farm is also spelled Snakhol. Here is the profile for Hans Olsen born 1805.

Thanks so much for all this helpful information. I am so excited about going to Norway this year and all of this will make it so much more meaningful. Thanks for your time and generosity in giving me this information. I'm amazed that my grandmother remembered so much accurately. She said that Martha's dad was a sailor who drowned at sea and reading this background of hers that all makes sense. Mary

I don't need information on the children.......the youngest was my great grandmother. However, if any of them had a different father than the others, that would be important information. My grandmother was very accurate in what she related, but I wish I knew the farm name. She said that her mother had lived on Gulbrandalens farm, but I can't find any reference to that farm and wonder if either of the other two mentioned was the farm and she was referring to the valley?????
