| Searching for any information verifying Tobias A Hansen born 1860 or 1861 in Norway....he listed arendal as where he came from on his naturalization papers. Was married to Helmine Petrine Hansdatter from Tune Ostfold Norway. They Came to America in 1881 (as far as i can tell). Marrigae records or immigration records....anything that would verify his birth date, place,and or parents or siblings. His middle name is listed as Andrew on his naturalization papers. |

This looks like the baptism of your Helmine. If so and she was living in Østfold and he was living in Vest-Agder, I would guess that they may have married in America.

"DIED--Mrs. Tobias Hanson of the East Side died Tuesday morning of typhoid fever after an illness of a few days. Her maiden name was Helmena Hanson. Born in Norway 37 years ago, she came to America at the age of 14. A family of four boys survive the youngest being but eleven months old. The sympathy of the community is extended to the father and the young family who will sadly miss the affectionate mother. The interment took place in Greenwood cemetery yesterday."
She is called Petrine in the 1895 census...

I see that the target Helmina Petrina Hansdatter has a brother named Edvard in the 1865 census. In 1895 Tobias and Petrina have a person boarding with them named Hartvik Hanson. Edvard also has a son b 1882 named Hartvik. The Edward Hanson family was under discussion some years ago on Norwayheritage:

On the row of little icons next to the posting date and time on your post is a garbage can. You can delete the post by clicking that and inputting your password. Likely him as the passenger next to him is Torgrim Haaland in the original record. A Torgrim P. Haaland is also next to Tobias in the emigration record posted above by Jackie. Not much info on the original record, no destination of where he was going or person he might have been going to.

I think this is Henrikke Hanson in the 1885 Minnesota State Census with two of her sons Morris (Marius) and Oskar. It may be that Marshall County would be a good place to look for the marriage of Hellene and Tobias.

Here is a Tobias Larsen born in 1861 from Arendal, leaving Kristiansand in 1881. Adults (Parents?) are leaving as well and are Hans Larsen and Henrikke Larsen. Children besides Tobias are Ludvig age 16, Marius age 11.3, Hans age 8 and maybe Malvine age 24 and Mine age 10

| I am new to this so please forgive me ifI am making a mistake in how to respond. I will have more individuation with time. Unless there is a series of coincidences, I think the person Tobias Andreas Tolfsen might be him which would mean that he changed his name to hansen when he married helmine petrine hansdatter who was probably going by hansen in america. And his father and mothers names were hansen and hansdatter. I know that he did marry julie sjorlund after petrine died and they bought a house in crookston where he raised my grandfather and his other kids and lived out the rest of his days with Julia. one daughter of Tolf and Anne was born in Norway and died in Crookston as well.
