Hallo everybody! I'm new to this forum. I'm from Germany and would like to know if anybody knows something about Norwegian immigrants from Lier/Buskerud who settled at Leer/Michigan. I would be pleased to get an answer.

Best regards

Norbert

Hello Norbert, welcome on(the)board

You do not give many clues, but by searching the Digitalarkivet for emigrants out of Kristiania, I find 41 persons from Lier going to Michigan, mainly Port Huron and Alpena, where such info is given.

Børge, thanks for the response. But I also need more specific informations about Norwegians in Leer/Michigan. Leer is a very small settlement in the Alpena County, so it seems probable that Norwegians settled there.

At this site http://clarke.cmich.edu/lhbalpena.htm there is "Norwegian Migration from Lier, Norway to Leer, Michigan. CMU Term Paper, 1966". listed. This is a library so don't know if you could get copies of the information but you could try contacting them. This link has an email address http://clarke.cmich.edu/contact.htm
Also this website has info about Alpena county http://www.rootsweb.com/~mialpena/

I am looking for an Anna Johnson that had sisters by the names of Mable and Georgia
They seemed to have changed their family name to Wilson. I understand that they moved to a place called Leer, close to Alpena, MI
She then married Herman Schroeder sometime in the early 1880s.
If anyone has any information on this family I would appreciate communication.
Thank you, Don

1900 US census for Alpena County shows headed by Norway born person using Wilson as a surname who is old enough to have any daughter who married about 1880. His name is William Wilson (b. 1838 in Norway). Only 3 of 8 children still living at home. Two other Norway-born Wilsons in that county - both too young to be parent to a woman (of unspecified birth year) but married about 1880.
Source - US National Archives Microfilm Series: T623 Roll: 699 Page: 125

1880 US census indicates several families (head of family born in Norway) using surname Wilson. Check at LDS website - familysearch.org

Marriage records in Alpena County for the years around 1880 appear also to be available for research on LDS microfilm.
