Wonderful to get this additional information. Really gives a full picture of family connections.

Interesting name - on FaG search, most with the name are in Norway - spelling Skjetne or Sjetne. Only a few in USA.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Ole Tostensen (father of Torstein Olson Moe, born 1859) - was age 25 when he married in 1847 to Gyri Gjermundsdatter. So Ole was born about 1822.

At Kvam (Vikor) found 2 possibilities -
Ole born 12 Feb 1820 to Tosten Olsen and Guri Arnesdatter
Ole born 11 Sept 1821 to same parents
Did 1st Ole die? Or how to sort this out?

Thanks for your ideas, Kay

Yes, it looks like the first Ole lived to the age of 3/4 year. There is one Ole Tostensen who died on October 15th 1820, buried 22th October, who died at this age. (To the left, no 8 from top) Although I can't quite read the farm name, it looks much like the one in the baptism. (top left)

Great! So the birthdate of 11 Sept 1821 will be the one for Ole.

Birth for future wife Gyri Gjermandsdtr, father looks like Gjermund Tostensen - but what is mother's name?

I read it as Ingeier. Gyri's confirmation entry (#33) has it as Ingjer. This name has a myriad of spellings; Wikipedia lets you read about princess/queen Ingegerd, while Ingjerd Hanevold is said to be one of our current (Norwegian) queen's favorite jewellery designers.

This is probably your Ingejerd as a widow in 1865.

Nice to see the mother's names on the bap. records. When did they start to list the mother?

Ingejerd - have not heard that name before Thanks for the interesting history.

Ingejerd's daughter Guri and husband Ole tostenson had a daughter Inger born about 1855. Maybe she had this name also. Looks like Inger emigrated 1875 the day before widow Guri and her son Torstein Olson Moe.

Have not found what happened to Inger in USA.

Gyri and Ole had a daughter Ingegjer, born and baptized in July and August 1856. (Second from top.) With parents in 1865.

In case you didn't know; Ole Tostensen was the second husband og Gyri Gjermundsdatter. She was first married to Nils Olsen in 1844, and then Ole Tostensen in 1847. Nils died in 1845 (topmost entry). Gyri and Ole's son Nils must have been named after this first husband.

Looks like Ole Tostensen - on 1865 Census, but not on 1875 Census - so died between those years.

On Gyri's confirmation 1838 - what is the farm name?

When Gyri emigrated with three children in 1875 (three posts above) she is described as Enke Gyri Gjermundsdtr Birkeland. Enke means widow. In this case the farm Birkeland may refer to the farm she was born at rather than the one she was living at at the time. At least øvre (upper) Birkeland is given as her place of birth at her 1838 confirmation, and also as the father's/parents' residence in her baptism entry.

It looks like Ole Tostensen died on December 27, 1866 and was buried on January 3, 1867. Both the age (46 years) and farm (Mo) match: First entry 1867.

In church record - after listing for Nils death, there is a 2 line remark. Does this apply to Nils?
