I am new to this forum so this may not be being asked in the right spot - forgive me. I am trying to write up a history on my great grandfather. He immigrated to the US in 1887. I want to find out what his life in Norway may have been like. I am interested to know what type of farming they would have done. His name was Carl Ludvig Anderson (many different spellings) and was born in Bredtvedt, Vestre Aker, Oslo, Norway in 1853. Can anyone point me to a good source to find out more about the typical life at this place and time?

In the 1865 census Carl and his family live in building of at least 35 flats (apartments) in Oslo on Eugens Gade (street). His father works as a Malermester (a master painter). There is no farming involved.

Thron Andersen Steen and Torkild Andersen Steen might be bestmen and/or brothers of the groom.

Maybe, the transcription gives them as fathers but the original record is not that clear.

That makes this 1801 Census Record for Steen interesting. Anders Thronsen and Maria Thorkelsdatter. A young son named Thorchiel Andersen.

So the transcription I posted above, which is listed as Marriage and is in 1834 must have been the engagement. And wha you posted is the marriage.

Hans Jacobsen born about 1787 on Bredvedt in the 1801 Census

Summer Jackson; there are several "Carl Ludvig Anderson" in the Oslo area who could potentially be your great grandfather. What sources do you have to connect him to Bredtvedt? Any US sources that gives his d.o.b., name of the parents, farmname, date of immigration...?
