Dear Listers!

Thomas Nilsson (Kvalen) (1817-1898) and wife (Ingeborg) Marie Sivertsdotter (1820-1867) emigrated from Hafslo in 1867 with most of their children settling in Franklin township, Vernon Co., WI.

The oldest son Nels Thompson moved to Otter tail Co., MN, while the rest of the children stayed in or around Vernon Co., WI, at least for many years!

It is being told that one of the children moved to and lived in CHICAGO, IL. Then it must have been either:

* Anna Thompson, born in Hafslo Sep. 19, 1852, or:

* Ole Thompson, born in Hafslo May 17, 1857.

A grandchild of Thomas once told relatives about «uncle Ole» that he shall have lived in Minnesota, but he was a visitor at the 1933/1934 Chicago World Fair and at that time wore a big red moustache!

This «challenge» has figured in my manuscript since about 1980, and I would be so happy if anyone could help me locate at least one of these siblings!

Thanks a million in advance!

Very sincerely yours,

Lars E. Oyane

Dear Jackie and other Listers!

Yes, Jackie, you found the father, Thomas Nelson, widowed in 1880 living with his son Sjur «Sever» Thompson. Thomas died in Vernon Co., WI Feb. 3, 1898, but I have never found an obituary for him...! And since he owned no realestate at the time of his death, there is no probate record either...

Thanks again for any suggestions!

Very sincerely yours,

Lars E. Oyane

A tree on Ancestry.com has this person as the son of Tomas Nilsen and Ingebor MariA Sivertsdatter.

Ole Thomasen Thompson

BIRTH 11 MAY 1857 • Kvalen, Hafslo, Sogn og Fjordlane, Norway
DEATH 1937

Hard to say at first look if this is the same person as you are looking for, but worth taking a more extensive look at.

Based on this passport application, I do not think this is the Ole Thompson of interest.

Ole Thompson

Name: Ole Thompson

The tree indicates his wife is from Flekkefjord, Vest-Agder and the birth month and year and emigration year fit this guy in the 1900 Census.

There were actually 2 World's Fair held in Chicago: 1893 and 1933.

Dear lyndal40, Jackie and other Listers!

Here I am afraid we see another example of people making family trees just «grabbing out» for «suitable» information without verification!

This Ole Thompson is quite obviously NOT the one we are looking for. There was a considerable amount of people from the Flekkefjord area who settled near Viroqua, WI, but very few of them «mixed» with our Sognings... I wouldn't be surprised if the guy from Flekkefjord was really named Ole Tonnesson!?

And yes, I am aware of the two World Fairs being held in Chicago, IL, but this has to be the one from 1933/1934...

Thanks again for your great efforts in this matter!

Very sincerely yours,

Lars E. Oyane
