Hi there,
I am new to this forum and am working with my mom to trace our heritage to Norway. Mom is 79 years old and I am trying to talk her into taking a vacation to Norway this summer. I hope to gather a lot of information for her to sift through before she makes the trip!
My ancestors came over in 1868 from Biri, Norway, and settled in Barron County, Wisconsin. Their names were Lars & Severina Saxberg (possibly spelled Saksberg). These were my mom's grandparents. I am looking for any information about relatives - absolutely anything about anyone with the Saxberg name.
Any replies at all would be interesting for my mom to read. If you have any other suggestions or searching routes I should take, I would be happy to hear any and all ideas!

According to the “Christiania Politikammer Emigrantprotokoll” this family group sailed from Christiania/Oslo to Kvebek on the Bark 4de November or Bark Fjerde NovemberSailing 1868-6-23. Contract logged 1868-06-11 by agent Blichfeldt, Knoph & Co.
They are listed as:
Lars Olsen Saxberg, 34
Severine Svendsdatter, 34
Sina, 4
Ida ¼

Thanks so much to all of you that replied!! I was amazed that I posted my question last Friday and when I checked my email at home on Sunday, I had four replies already!!! I immediately called my Mom to tell her about it. When I began reading to her all the information about her grandparents coming to America, she began to cry. You made her day!!

The baptismal record for Ida Larsdatter, Saxberg is #10.
She was born Jan 15 1868. |

Idas mother Syverine Svendsdatter was born May 25 1833, see #31.
Her parents were Svend Olsen and Ingeborg Nilsdatter, Saxberg.

Idas grandparents, Svend Olsen and Ingeborg Nilsdatter, had a son Ole Aug 9 1814. They were also then living at Saxberg.
It is reasonable to think that Ingeborg came from that farm. The census for 1801 shows Ingeborg 8 years old and her parents were Niels Knudsen and Marte Olsdatter, link.

In the 1801 census there was only one Svend Olsen in Biri. It is reasonable to think that he was Ingeborg Nilsdatters husband to be, link.
The baptismal record for Svend is 2nd record Febr 20 1782.
His parents were Ole Finboesen and Marit Svendsdatter, Storsletten. |
