Roland is in Story county, Iowa. The usgenweb page for Story county has a lot of neat databases of Story county records including a marriage database covering 1854-1909.
Granted Johnson is an exceedingly common name as are the first names of the girls but there was a marriage in 1891 of a Torres Kaltvet & Emma Johnson and in 1893 one between an N.P. Christianson & Lena Johnson and numerous between Isabel Johnson & others.
I wasn't able to find Torres yet but the other Kaltvet/ Kaltvedt families in Story came from Kopervik in Rogaland. Niels P Christianson is listed with wife Sena age 19 (born Polk Iowa or Minnesota? ) in the 1895 census transcription at the site.

I would add here that the Niels Nielsen is most likely the Niels Nielsen living with JOsias Barros in 1880 census. Josias sold his farm to the Swede, Niels Nielsen, and his brother a short time after. |

| Erik, have you tried searching the Iowa State Census 1925? It is amazing in that it names the person's parents. Searching by the daughter's various possible first names, with no surname, + birth year, + born Minnesota might bring you to the girls eventually. |

In the 1905 Iowa census as Lina Darrington, says that she has lived 12 years in Iowa.
Apparently not the correct Lena. |

I just spoke with the recorder's office in Rice County and they told me that the marriage certificates from this time do not show dates of birth or parents information, not even witnesses...very sparse information and would be of little value to us:
Our only hope is if Joel Thorson at ELCA can locate the church record of the wedding.
Regarding his date of death of 11..22..1876, the county recorder looked at the death certificate and the only item besides the name was that he was 42 years old, which would be pretty consistent with the age of a Paul Johnson in the 1875 census. It does not give any information as to the next of kin, who reported the death, parents names etc. No information that would be helpful to our search. Joel Thorsen could not find a record of his death in any Church books either.....
I think I remember now why I stopped looking for these people a couple of years ago but I thought I would give it another go.... |

I am looking at a church record for baptism of Anne Carolina (Lena) Johnson, born 1.26.1876 and baptized 3.12.1876. As far as I can read here are the witnesses.
Andrias Ingebretsen, John Sanders, Anne K. Ingebretsen, Ingeborg (surname illegible but could be Josiasdatter....Annie's sister)\, and Mathilde Christiansen....The Andrias Ingebretsen seems to be a witness at other births as well, so he could be one of those habitual witnesses for Church member's children.
It does not look like Paul Johnson had family members close, at least none that we could easily say were involved in the official proceedings of the baptisms. |

Dear All. I received a pdf file of the marriage record of Annie Josiasdatter and Paul "Johnson"... it actually reads:
Paul Johannesen and it lists his parents as Johan Johannesen and Eli ? Paulsdatter. The marriage took place on November 12, 1870 and it states his age is 35. This corresponds to thet 1875 Minnesota STate Census says he was 40 years old which would imply DOB 1835. |

I would add that it is likely that Paul was a second son of the family, taking the name of his mother's father (Paulsdatter)......so can anybody see this family in Norway?
father: Johan Johannesen
Mother: Eli Paulsdatter
1st son??? Johan????
2nd son : our Paul Johannasen (Johansen?) ---> Johnson.... b. circa 1835?
..another son Thomas Johannasen? (Johnson) born 1855 as shown in family grouping of 1875 Minnesota census?

Henry P. Johansen married June 1 1904 - his father was Paul Johansen and mother A(nnie?) link.

Parents; "Inderst" Lodger John Johannesen and Eli Poulsdatter, see #12
