I was looking for more history on the Gjerdrum farm in Norway. Our last family tree shows Hans Olaf Gerdrum 1947 as being on the farm. No further information is shown as to his children or if someone is still on the farm.

You are probably running into privacy controls for very recent history and living individuals.

If someone in that family is interested in learning whether others are also researching the same family history they might encounter your postings online and contact you. Or you could look for a historical/genealogical society in that part of Norway and see if they have members who are interested.

If you think Hans might still be alive (1947 is not that long ago) you could try www.1881.no It's a telephone, address, mapservice site for Norway.

Which Gjerdrum farm are you seeking ? If you know the fylke and parish, it's possible there is a bygdebøk covering the history of the farm and farm owners. There are several bygdebøker collections in U.S. which you might consult for more current history of the farm.

There was also a series of books called Norske Gardsbruk published in the 1940s and then again in the 1990s which contain information about farms and the farm ownership. Books are arranged geographically by fylke and parish. Here is a link to--sorry in Norwegian language-- discussion about these books:

There is more than one Norwegian farm called Gjerdrum -- and even those farms have sections which are used as "sub-farms" owned and/or rented by a pretty long list of persons.

What is your purpose in looking for living persons somehow related to you that are still living on or owning farm land connected to earlier "Gjerdrum" farms? I'm always curious why people actively seek distant living relatives. I encounter people distantly related to myself entirely by accident because we are both researching the history of one or more common ancestors, but it was never my goal to seek them out.

Due to this forum, we met a Chicago connection this summer when she and her daughter came to visit. We are on a Gerdrum farm here in Montana that Magnus homesteaded. His daughter is still living in Minnesota at 95. She has a pretty good memory and has provided us with a family tree but ends with Hans Olav Gjerdrum. Years ago she visited Norway but English was a problem. She was in communication with Sissel for years but due to her age has stopped. We have a daughter very much interested in the Norwegian heritage.
Also, no one knows what became of Karl Gerdrum ( Magnus's brother )after he homesteaded here..if he had a family or what . The Gjerdrum farm is Sondre Gjerdrum

Thank you. That is interesting. No one ever knew why he did not return to Montana after the war . I am sure that is Karl. Loise, Magnus and Karl were the 3 children of Hans Hansen Gjerdrum and Anne Marie Nils to come to America. Louise made at least one visit back to Norway..non of the boys ever did. I have seen the thread on Louise and Hans. That was how the connection was made with Louise's great granddaughter. I am not sure the parish that sondre Gjerdrum is located.

You are dealing with Gjerdrum district of Akershus, Norway.

Here is Magnus living as a lodger at his father's residence in the 1900 Norwegian census.

http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1900&knr=0234&kenr=001&bnr=0025&lnr=00

Gjerdrum district is the location you should start with if you decide to research earlier in the family tree.

Thank you very much. We do have the family tree that Magnus brought with him. We have it current until Hans Olav Gjerdrum 1947.

University of North Dakota Special Collections Arne Brekke Bygdebøker collections for Gjerdrum parish in Akershus listing:

Author Title Year Call Number Type Notes
Kirkeby, B. Gjerdrum bygdebok, v. 1 1961 DL596.G52 K57 Farms
Kirkeby, B. Gjerdrum bygdebok, v. 2 1963 DL596.G52 K57 Farms
Kirkeby, B. Gjerdrum bygdebok, v. 3 1974 DL596.G52 K57 General

So there may be an additional 15 years or so of records on Gjerdrum farm in one of the Farm volumes. You could contact them and ask for copy to help you.
