I am searching for descedant of Hans Olsen who emigrated to New Zealand somewhere in the 1870's. He a brother of my greatgandmother was born in the District Borre/Nykirke in Vestfold, Norway 15/7-1850, and he was confirmated in Borre 11/6-1865. After he emigrated all trace of him has been lost..
Found a letter he wrote to his sister, my greatgrandmother is marked Okura 15 nov. 1890. In the letter he wrote that he left Norway in 1870 and went from Kragerø, Norway to UK.. He saild some trips to USA, then he saild to New Zealand from UK. Before 1890 he bougth land 12 miles from Auckland and lives 2,8 miles from the hot springs.
He contacted to Railway Company to sell timber, I the letter he is still bachelor, this is in 1890 so he must get married after this. He did it well and sent money to his family back .in Norway,
Any information is more than welcome! |

So this is exciting new information to add to an earlier discussion in June 2012 titled "Hans Olsen."
In that thread Hans's birth is stated as 15/6 1850 in Borre, parents Ole Hansen and Inger Kristine Paulsdatter (whose names could maybe appear on a death certificate and help identify him).
More research of the geography and land records needed to determine if the following is the correct Hans. This Hans owns land in Okura parish.
Auckland Star newspaper, Vol. XXIX, issue 232, Oct 1898
"Available Land Between Devonport and Waiwera"
"A Valley on the Main Road"
"The undersigned have received instructions from Mr. Hans Olsen, to sell at the Haymarket, on Tuesday October 18, at 11 o'clock, about 290 acres of land, largely improved, being Nos. 52, 78, and 7-?-, Parish of Okura, and 325, Parish of Pukeatua. One half of the purchase money may remain on the property, bearing 5 percent per annum interest." |

First we'll have to search more to find when, where he died.
The previously posted newspaper ad for 1898 sale of land by Hans Olsen says location is between Devonport and Waiwera.
Wikipedia says Devonport is a suburb of city of Auckland.
Says Waiwera means "hot water" and its main claim to fame is a hot springs. Read more online about Waiwera Hot Springs. Location is 24 miles north of Auckland. |

Probably a New Zealand genealogy forum could offer better help. Maybe somone here can recommend a forum, if we don't find the answers.
John Harold Olsen, a soldier in World War I, killed in action in Turkey 08 August 1915. Age 23. Parents Hans and Jeanette Olsen, 141 Grey Street, Auckland.
Back to say this Hans is likely a different man; born ca 1861, married 1888.

Difficult to differentiate among Hans Olsens in death records. The above naturalization record seems like a possible.
Advice on how to order

I checked the 10 references to Hans Olsen that come up in one newspaper - the Auckland Star - on the posted Papers Past website, and only the ad already here seems to refer to the correct Hans. |
