What happened to Anna Jørgine b. 22 May 1875 Stubberud/Barlindokka Øvre Eiker, Norway?

(Her father later used the surname Strand)
She most likely used the name Jørgine Strand.
She leaves Norway 17. august 1900
http://digitalarkivet.arkivverket.no/gen/vis/8/pe00000000519227
and arrives at EllisIsland 31. august 1900 with Campania from Liverpool. In the register her name is Virgine Strand, but in the original it is written Jorgine.
Her voyage was paid for by a friend and on the manifest she is going to someone by the name Hakon; I think - difficult to read. His surname looks like Weng? This name might be important - can someone read it?

According to familyhistory a wicked man tricked her to come to US and something criminal might have happened.
Is it possible to find out what happened to her after she came to New York?
(I'm asking on behalf of someone who knows her Norwegian background, but don't know her faith in US.)

Looking at the original on Ancestry.com it looks like betroved Hakon Weng 5046 133rd Street New York.

What does the word "betroved" mean? I didn't find it in my dictionary.
Is it possible to find him in the 1900 census? He might be the man who tricked her. |

It might have been been
betrothed
adj
1. engaged to be married: he was betrothed to her.
n
2. the person to whom one is engaged; fiancé or fiancée
Going back and blowing it up very larrge, I would say that my best guess is betrothed as above. |

That makes sense.
According to family-history she met a bad man and something criminal happened to her.
Wonder if it possible to find out what her fate was?
I have tried to find this Hakon Weng using Familysearch, but no luck.

| It is a tough one, I used Ancestry.com last evening with no luck trying to find any person living in New York with that name. You can Google map133rd Street. It is a long street running from the west side Manhatten to the east side of the Bronx, However using 5046 does not really bring up a specific address so I wonder about that. Weng is not a common name and Weng born in Norway is even less common and almost unknown especially in New York. |

Since the possibility of criminal intent has been brought up, Hakon Weng might be an alias, a name that might "lure" a specific nationality of potential victim, perhaps by correspondence between the lovelorn or loveless, re Belle Manness case.
As Anton found, the majority of Weng in New York are not Norwegian but German. There is a Herman Weng a single man living in New York in 1900. He marries in the mid 19teens not to a Jorgine and dies in New York in the1940s.
If there was something sensational about Jorgine's fate perhaps there might be a newspaper story about it--they love this kind of stuff to sell papers.
I assume the person interested has looked up her parents' dødsfallprotokol and there is nothing to be gained there. Did any other immediate relatives, even aunts, uncles or cousins come to US who might harbor the rest of Jorgine's story? She has been checked for in the 1910 Norwegian census? |

Here is the probably the arrival of Hakon Vang (probably Hakon Leif Finn Wang into the US. If we broaden the search to include the spelling as Vang it does increase the number of potential candidates a lot.

Sounds like you have found the correct Jorgine/Gertie. Findagrave.com had her listed under both names. I did notice that "they" were born and died the same year. Then she is out of "my picture".
Wang/Vang is a more common name in Norway than Weng/Veng and Wang/Vang is also used as a farmname in the same parish as Jorgine came from (Øvre Eiker). She might have met Hakon when she lived there. I have not so far found a Hakon/Haakon/Håkon Wang/Vang in Øvre Eiker. (Am looking) |

In the Dødsfallprotokoll when Jørgine's father died in 1918 Jørgine is listed as "forsvunnet" (disappeared). (Her mother died 1888.) |
