Hi
I think I have found the baptizm of Josef.
He was born 14 april 1893 and baptized 22. may 1893 in Kampen parish, Oslo (Christiania) and given the name Josef Marenius. This birthyear fits the emigration age and US census, birthdate 14 april was also mentioned earlier. Father's occupation "Modelsnedker" (carpenter) is correct and so is his birthyear. I have a bit trouble reading his given name, but family name might look like Hanssen (double s was written like this) or Karlsen. Mother's name and age is correct.

The name is Josef Marinius. The paren'ts birthyears match other records but father's first name is Michael? Karl Hansen is one of the faddernes. |

I found the same marriage in the church book.
Now I'm a bit confused. Their birthplaces are the same as noted in the 1885 census (Gran is in Hadeland) and Vang is in Hamar.
His age and occupation are correct. We have seen Mathea's birthyear both 1859/1860 and 1863. Might there bee two so similar couples?

The confirmation gives his father's name as Hans Mikkelsen while at the marriage it is Hans Olsen.
But I believe it is the same person.

There is also an obituary of sorts for Carl Hansen published Tuesday, 10 Mar 1908 in Rockford. He died from dropsy at his home at 1529 15th St. A city directory of Rockford for 1918 gives that address for Regna T. Hansen.
The obit also says Carl had been employed at Greenlee but hadn't worked for a couple of months before dying. Here is a little historical information about Greenlee from their website:
"For more than 140 years, Greenlee has been a provider of quality tools to the woodworking industry and, for over 70 years, to the electrical industry as well...." |

When the son Harald was baptized in the Paulus parish the parents are written as Mikael Hansen and Matea Andersdatter, see #210.

| Hmm very strange, could Matea Andersdatter have been married to Mikkel Hansen first and then to Karl Hansen? Or did Mikkel Hansen morph into Karl. |

I've been reading through all this information, and I am really confused now! I think it is curious that the marriage information for Josef Hansen and Marie Christensen indicate that Josef's mother is named "Mashel" which I believe is the clerk making a mistake in the writing the name. I figured the Josef's mother was probably "Mikaela" or whatever the equivalent of Michele is in Norwegian. Since I am doing this research for my best friend and it is her family that we are talking about, I have shared this information with her. She did tell me that according to Josef Hansen, his father died when he was young. I wonder if that is why there is some confusion.
