...in Verdal in North Trøndelag (north of the city Trondheim). Her parents were the teacher Gustav Olsen and his wife Marie, born Eggen before she was married to the guy. The couple's daughter Magdalene Otilie was baptized December 28 in Stiklestad in 1879.
Her confirmation took place September 29, 1895. Magdalena Otilie Olsen was her given name in the Church-book, and she was the first of all the girls. And her parents are name-given as the same ones in 1879.
Emigrants via Trondheim 18767 - 1930 has listed the above-mentioned girl as leaving/travelling from Norway May 10, 1907. La Crosse, Wisc. was her destination. And her name was given as Magdalene Ot. Ols. Lyng - and Lyng was earlier part of her mother's name.She was again told that she was born in 1879, and she was unmarried. Is it possible to find more information about her?

Ellis Island har recorded Magda Olsen Lyng's arrival on May 27, 1907 in New York, sailing on the SS United States. Her ticket was paid by friend Mr. J. Kindly in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was also her destination. Possibly him in census-1910.
Likely Magda as a servant in Kansas in census-1910. |

looking at the manifests @ Ellis Island, I find that the resolution of the images are quite low.
Example for Magda (original size/resolution):
Have anyone come across how to view higher resolution images of the original manifests? Do you have to buy them to getter better quality, or do even they have such low resolution? I find them often to be quite blury and hard to read... |

Jan Peter. I use the Ancestry.com site to view the original manifest. It allows me to magnify the page but only slightly better than yours. I cannot read the last group about Place of Birth much better on Ancestry.com than I can on your example. When I look at the last section I would read it on Ancestry.com as N J Something Something Trondhjem. Really not much better than I could looking at your example shown above. Blowing it up does not help as the quality is not good enough to improve the ability to read it. You may be doing as good as can be done with the quality of the original. Ancestry.com does not allow one to reproduce the original only to copy and paste the transcription. Ancestry.com does allow you to save the image to your computer and from there by various laborious means you can transfer the image to someone by email but they do not make it easy. All you can do easily is copy and paste the transcription. Shown below.

I notice that the URL for the Ellis Island records contain the path "manifest-low", so I assume there should be a high version as well. But likely only available for purchase.
With regards to the last column, it reads "Verdalen, N.T.hjems Amt. Trondheim.
N.T.hjems Amt is Nordre Trondhjems Amt, the old name for Nord Trøndelag county. |
