| Amazing! I am pretty sure that this person named Regina must be Rønnaug - though she should been 70 years old at that time in 1875, and not only 68 (born in 1805). But they could have misunderstood it because of still "bad" english, perhaps? They had then stayed in USA - and probably Martin - for about 5 years, but I guess the Norwegians talked their "mother language" still- but were learning english more and more. I guess the name Rønnaug was not so easy to pronounce in English. I have been looking after name that could be used instead of Rønnaug. I believe the answer is Regina. We also see there is a girl in the family, Regina M., who was three years old in 1875. It was really common in the Norwegian tradition to name grandchildren after grandparents. I guess we might think that the grandmother, Regina, passed away after 1875, but before 1880. In the census of 1880 we don´t find her. And I am pretty sure that Regina`s (Rønnaug Iversdatter Hammer) last place on earth then was Martin, Minnesota. Thank you so much for all information you have found of this "missing" family of mine! |
