My great grandfather was Norwegian and came to Australia in 1865 1867 on bark Bastiaan Pot as a ships carpenter However we think he jumped ship and changed his name to Andrew Rodrom and lived in Australia from then on. His naturalisation certificate states he was born March 15 1834 Trondheim to Maren and Gabriel. However our searching of church records is difficult without his real name
If we could find crew list of Bastiaan pot may give us a lead.

Hopefully someone maybe able to help

Google finds a website that is not Norwegian about the ship Bastiaan Pot. Perhaps you can try it -

Hmm... can't find any record of this ship coming to Norway.

Andrew would be Anders or Andreas in Norway.
Rodrom is most likely an anglification of his original farmname, like Rendum - Rodum - Rydum - Rødom - Rødum.

Gabriel is not that common first name in Norway, but there are a few. If its correct, Andrew would be found as Anders or Andreas Gabrielsen in Norwegian records.

Here is one Anders Gabrielsen with parents Gabriel and Karen on farm Rotnæs in Aafjord just outside Trondheim, census-1865.

But (and there are two but's):
1) In 1865, he is married with two children.
2) He is born 01 Feb 1836.

Thank you for your help. He has not left us many clues but The ship Bastiaan pot ( Sebastian pot) left from Gothenburg and arrived in Australia sept 1865 before departing 8n October If only I could get a crew listit would narrow the search
You would think his surname would be gabrielsen as Norwegian naming reflects
Andrew rodrom had 6 chn after marrying Martha venables / mc conville in 1876 and lived in country nsw Gunning Their names are mary, Joseph, George, Esther, Elizabeth and Annie
He died in 1911 in Australia
He may have had a family in Norway but can you check did Anders gabrielsen die in Norway Many thanks
any hints of where or what I should search would be great as there are many Aussies that would like to know about our Norwegian heritage

Good point. The Anders in question is still in Norway in census-1900.

Well unfortunately it can’t be him as we have newspaper reports of him in Australia
Our great grandfather died in country nsw Australia 1911
He changed his name to Andrew Rodrom we think when he jumped ship and as far as we know he didn’t return to Norway
his naturalisation certificate states he was in Greymouth New Zealand for 2 yrs and Orange nsw for 18 mths before settling in Gunning nsw where he lived for decades
He became naturalised Australian in 1906
Thank you
His mothers name looks like Marion Marian or Maren
Married martha venables/ mcconville in1876
