I'm trying to determine if Bjorn (b. 1832) is a brother or half-brother.

Here is possibly his sister's birth record born 8 years later in 1840:
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1421/9297/92 - Line 15, right page.

Here is possibly his brother's birth record born 12 years later in 1844:
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1422/9308/5 - Line 34.

Here iss possibly another brother's birth record born 16 years later in 1848:
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1422/9308/27 - Line 21

The 3 people listed here I believe are brothers/sister and their parents are Tallef Knudsen and Margit Bjørnsdr. They were married on 7 Sep 1838: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1421/9304/23

It's possible Margit was married before to Osmund Knudsen. If so, I wonder if Osmund and Tallef were brothers.

Can you compare these records and see what you think?

Thanks

I believe this is Bjorn and Osmund in www.findagrave.com. Interesting that Bjorn's father was apparently Asmund and Osmund's father was Tollef. My family history states they are brothers.

Not necessarily grandparents then, but godparents?

Gender: Female
Marriage Date: 16 jul 1829
Marriage Place: Vinje, Telemark, Norway
Spouse: Osmund Knudsen
FHL Film Number: 278313

#16

And likley a second one

Margit Bjornsdr
in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926

Gender: Female
Marriage Date: 7 sep 1838
Marriage Place: Vinje, Telemark, Norway

It is likely that the children born to Margit after her 1838 marriage are half siblings to Bjørn.

Based on the last name of Knud and the birth year which is close to that calculated from the marriage age for Osmund, I would think that this is the baptism record for Osmund.

Osmund Knudsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Osmund Knudsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 8 nov 1795
Baptism Place: Vinje, Telemark, Norway
Father: Knud Tveten
FHL Film Number: 278313

Tallef Knudsen
in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927
Name: Tallef Knudsen
Gender: Male
Baptism Date: 9 mai 1804 (9 May 1804)
Baptism Place: Vinje, Telemark, Norway
Father: Knud Tveten
FHL Film Number: 278313

It is likley that Osmund and Tallef have the same father.

Here is a Osmund Knudsen born about 1796 living on Tvetene in the 1801 Census. Father is Knud Osmundsen and mother is Margit Knudsdatter.

Link

You have to go to the confirmation records to find the mothers name and also the fathers last name for Tallef

Tallef Knudsen Tveten, Father is Knud Osmundsen and mother is Margit Knudsdatter.

It looks like Osmund and Tallef were brothers. Osmund and Margit (m. 1829) had at least 2 children (Knud Asmundsen, b 1830 and Bjorn Asmundsen b. 1832).

It appears according to this record that Osmund died 22 March 1836 (https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1421/9295/25) Line 5, lower left. He's also listed on the next page (https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1421/9295/26) Line 5, left page.

Then, Margit marries Tallef in 1838 and they have at least 3 more children.

Anund (b. 1848) is the 3rd child and living with a half-brother Knud (b. 1830) in the 1865 census:
https://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/ftliste_e.aspx?ft=1865&knr=0834&kenr=003&bnr=0028&lnr=00

I believe Tallef died in 1858 (line 36): https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/1422/9306/47

Some parishes have had their parish records transcribed. This helps when you are trying to read the original records as the transcribed versions will sometimes give you the name fo the farm or the name of the fadder, which many times are difficult to read. Here is one example. The marriage record for Margit Bjørnsdatter to Osmund Knudsen in 1829.

Link

And her second marriage in which she is listed as a widow (enke)
