I was researching my great great grandfather, Haggin Evenson 1800-1865 about 4 years ago and a number of you were very helpful. Now I need to ask you to help me with three more names in Haagin line. I am not sure of the names and dates.

Haagin Evenson was the father of Hans Hawkinson. This is what I have in my tree after Haagin Evenson. Son of Even Johnsen -1857 Even's father next in line Johannas Erikson (no dates) then johannas' father might be Erich Olson (no dates) and finally his father might be Ole Erichsen (no dates). I can't find any records I can trust without these dates. I know we have gone over some of this before but could sure user your help on this.

You have two earlier topics that Jacike linked to. Now you need to be quite specific on what information you want. That would help so we do not need to wade through the previous work.

So a start of a tree would be

Ole Erichsen
Erich Olson
Johannes Eirikson
Even Johannsen Anne Hansdatter
Haagen Evenson Maren Haagensdatter
Hans Haagenson (Hawkinson) b 1837 Skedsmo, Akershus

What information do you want, be specific. If dates which dates birth, death, marriage etc.

The above names in that order are correct with what I have. I have records to support Hans and Haagan and I know the next in line is Even Johnson but I get several Even Johnsons with different wives and I can't seem to pinpoint which is correct. Because I don't have the dates, I can't trust the records I'm finding. So it is the top tree in the above list along with their wives that I am really struggling with. As far as dates, I need Birth and Death. Everything I can find puts these names in order but without the dates and wives I can't be sure.

The above comments are a good start. We will try and stay on track. Going to the original records is your best way of assuring yourself that you are on track and accurate. Most of the information is given in the earlier posts but perhaps not gathered together.

This is likely the marriage record for Haagen Evensen. This gives us his fathers name and where he lived.

Haagen Evensen
in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926
Name: Haagen Evensen
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Birth Date: 1800
Birth Place: Baarli
Marriage Date: 7 mai 1832 (7 May 1832)
Marriage Place: Skedsmo, Akershus, Norway
Father: Even Johnsen
Spouse: Maen Haagensdr
FHL Film Number: 123396
Reference ID: 2674

Always go to the original records. There you get the names of the parents if you are lucky and a good record to use in your Tree.

#1

You also get the farm name the family was using. In this case Braate.

Next I went looking at the 1800 Census for Skedmo, Akershus. There was only one Even Jons* in the record and he is living on Braate. I think that is a good match as a start.

Even Jonsen is married to Anna Hansdatter and one of several children is your Haagen. Even was born about 1756. That will help later.

1801 Census

The marriage record for Even Jonsen Braate and Anne Hansdatter

Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926 about Even Jonsen
Name: Even Jonsen
Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 13 jul 1785
Marriage Place: Skedsmo, Akershus, Norway
Spouse: Anne Hansdr
FHL Film Number: 123396
Reference ID: 1980

Also see number 5 near bottom of the page.

Sooner or later here we will be limited by the fact that a fire in 1830 destroyed many of the church records for Skedsmo, Nittedal etc.

There are several Bygdebøker for Skedsmo and Nittedal that you may have to access to obtain more information on the families.

The danger you have then with little or no parish records is that your line becomes very difficult to take the next step back.

For example I am comfortable with the data we have above in your tree back to Even Jonsen married to Anna Hansdatter. Back beyond that I would say you need to be very careful.

I have not seen any evidence that the father of Even Jonsen is Johannes Eriksen and also remember that the wife of Even Jonsen is named Anna Hansdatter.

Thank you for the time you have put into this. It is disappointing that some of the records were destroyed. I really hoped I could have gotten further. Thank you for getting me this far.

May not be the end of the line. There is a Bygdebok for Skedsmo, Akershus. Bygdebok are Norwegian farm and family histories. I will check with the librarian at University of North Dakota and see if any information exists on Even Jonsen of Braate farm.

A long shot but worth a try. This is the book he will look at.

All I could find on Even Jonsen in the book on Skedsmo is a few lines in the middle of page 180. Seems to be taken directly from the census:

Thanks Tore. About what I expected. No new information in the bygdebok. I think the family tree for Dave dead ends at Even Jonsen.

Some speculation on Anne Hansdatter. In the wedding entry from 1785 (#5) the farm Naftstad is mentioned, though I cannot read the context, and one of the witnesses is named Torgier Hansen, plausably a brother of the bride. Now in the piece on Nafstad in Ullensaker bygdebook, we are told that Hans Nilsen and Gudbjør Mikkelsdatter on that farm had a son Torger who moved to Skedsmo, as well as a daughter Anne.

There is a tree on Geni containing the Hans Nilsen Nafstad above. All the children from the bygdebook are listed, except Anne, who appears to be masked as "private", which may be a good sign, but I can't see any more as I don't have the paid subscription, and neither can I read the contact information on the owner.
