Benjamin Thordarson was born 22 Aug 1851 at the farm Brunahvammur in Vopnafjarðarhreppur, Norður Múlasýsla. He left Iceland on the SS Björg 26 May 1873. I find him in the 1891 Norway Bergen Census as an unmarried man. Did he arrive in Norway soon after leaving Iceland? It was thought he was leaving for North America. What happened to him after 1891? Did he stay in Norway and die there? Did he leave Norway? Thanks. Sunna.

Yes. I know. That tree gets all the information from our database: www.IcelandicRoots.com - a nonprofit charitable organization. Now there is another family member from Iceland who is searching for this man and what happened to him.

Probably him, no first name given in the 1900 Norwegian Census for Bergen. Living with a Paraplymagersvend which is the same occupation Benjamin had in his death record.

Wonderful!!! thank you so very much!!! I give presentations to the local Sons of Norway groups telling about our common heritage from long ago. It suits me perfectly since I have both Norway and Iceland ancestors. I have been to Norway twice. Our son played in a hockey exchange program when he was just a middle school kid - in 1999 and 2000. I really appreciate your help.

I see he is buried at Stiftelsespresten, Kommunepresten - I see that at one time this was a cemetery for paupers.
Also, he was at Neevengården - which was at one time a psychiatric hospital. What was the hospital and the cemetery in Feb of 1917 when Benjamin died?
