Hello Dear Friends. I am glad to see many of you still here and I am still working on my family history but spending less time these days. A mystery that has been nagging me is whatever became of Sivert Andreas Torbersen Rambraut. Born June 23, 1849 in Trondheim, and confirmed October 11, 1863 at Domkirken in Trondheim. In 1865 he is listed in the National Census in Trondheim with his sister Ingeborg and his parents, Anders and Sigri Rambraut.
this is where we lose him......
In 1865 or early 1866 Sivert's sister moved to Vardo in Finnmark where she married. I am in possession of a letter that Sivert wrote to his sister on May 30, 1866.
after that nothing. Sivert cannot be found in the 1875 census and he is not listed as a sponsor on any of his sisters children's baptisms.
I conclude Sivert died most likely shortly after 1866 but before 1875. I have looked at death records in Trondheim and emigration records thinking he might have moved and died somewhere else.
This is a brick wall for me and thought I would ask one more time in here if anybody had any other thoughts.

I assume that one of the childen is your ancestor. How about the other children, do they give any idea on how about when Sivert Andreas might have died.

Since you have a lot of information on Sivert Andreas and a relatively narrow search, I am also going to give you another approach. I have found that other sites can sometimes do a better job in certain searches than we can at Norway Heritage. Especially searches in which it is likely that the person of interest probably stayed in Norway and maybe died in Norway. Sometimes a new and different site can bring a renewed look at the topic.
The site I follow is at Forumsarkivet

And the search part is called Brukernes eget forum.
You will need to set up an account. It is free but they do insist on you using your real name. For you that would not seem to be a issue. You can post your query in English, they seem to do just fine with that. On the "Brukenes get forum" page, click on the "Start New Topic" Box

If you decide to try a new site and have any issues let us know.
You will do best if you provide your query with as many links to what you already know from the Norwegian sites. That is 1865 Censsu, baptism records etc.
Advce from the site on posting
1. Make a descriptive heading. Write the name of the person you are looking for, place of birth and year of birth. If you are uncertain, write down the estimated birthplace and approximate birth year.
2. If you have asked about the same person or the person's parents / siblings / children before, please inform about it and post links.
3. Remember that those who are searching do not know what you know. In the first post, describe what information you already have. Post links to the sources. Remember that those who help you spend a lot of time on the search. Don't waste your help time, give good information from the beginning. |

thank you Lyndal. I will attempt to do this. I don't think there is anything more we can do. All the parish registrars are not yet searchable. They are scanned and it will take time. I will follow your instructions.

Well, it appears that dodfallsprotokol for Trondheim aren't online, at least I didn't see them. If they exist, you'd probably have to write the Archives to get a copy. There is a long shot chance that Sivert was still alive when they died and he might be mentioned by name and his location might be recorded in those records.

Hi Jackie. thank you for that. I have started a thread at Digitalarkivet and was directed to a group at the National Archives that would look at the probate records. I gave them the information and they said it could take up to 21 days so we'll see if Sivert is mentioned in there.
