Hello I have asked many questions and you have always been a great help. I am still trying to research and find more info on my husband's family. The mother of my husband's great-grandfather, Ole Gunderson born 1857, is Karen Mortensdatter--born around 1820 somewhere near Asnes, Hedmark, Norway.. I am still trying to find the correct one. You did help a few years ago to find a possibility but that wasn't her.
Could you tell me anything more about this Karen Mortendatter?

Karen Mortensdatter, born at Nyen, daughter of Morten Olsen and Olia Ulriksdatter (Arkivverket. Digitalarkivet.Hof ministerialbok 6, p558-559) She was 15 at her confirmation in 1835.

She may be a possibility.
Thanks, Barb

Is this your Ole Gunderson born 1857?
#4 Ole Gundersen
Born 04 Jan 1857, chr 11 Jan 1857, Vaaler, Hedmark.
Parents: Gunder Olsen & Karen Mortensdr

One of the Godparents for this christening is Marthea Mortensdr. Could she be an aunt to the newborn boy?

This Karen has a younger sister named Marhe: (Jensdr/Johnsdr could be a spelling error)
Karen Mortensdr b 24 May 1820 chr 04 Jun 1820 Hof, Hedmark. parents: Morten Knudsen & Pernille Jensdr
Marthe Maria Mortensdr b 07 Nov 1823 chr 16 Nov 1823 Hof, Hedmark. parents: Morten Knudsen & Pernille Johnsdr

2 other possible siblings:
Eberhart Mortensen, b 20 November 1828
Hellene Mortensdr, b 7 December 1834

A lot of research needs to be done to connect these people.

That could perhaps be our Ole Gundersen. On Ole's marriage document to Olina Thorsteinsdatter, 1881 in Wisconsin, the father is listed as Gunder Person. However since we have never found any documents on his birth....perhaps the father could be a Gunder Olsen--just a mistake.

However, I don't think that the Karen Mortensdatter born May 24, 1820 to Morten Knudsen and Pernille Jensdatter is the right person. I think that this Karen married this person:
https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01038043000856 --a Syver Larsen. AND https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070603290528 #9

That is where I am stuck.
Thanks for your help.

In the abstracted records for baptism in Ancestry.com there is no Ole born in Hof Hedmark 1856 plus/minus 2 with a mother named Karen Mortensdater or Nisdatter with father named Gunder. Only one is the one above born in Vaaler.

Big family in the 1865 Census so I am likely to dismiss this Ole as a candidate.

1865

Looks very similar to the one I posted above...

Barb your original post above included a question on a Karen born to Morten Olsen and Olia Ulriksdatter born about 1820. I have not found this person. The closest I have come is for Karen born to Morten Sųrensen and Olea Ulriksdatter. This could be the same parents as the ones for the Karen labelled I posted above by Jan Peter born Nov 22, 1829.

Here is the Ancestry record. Odd it says her last name is Markusdatter as does the original record. The farm name is the same as you listed. Nyen.

Name: Karen Markusdr
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 28 des 1820 (28 Dec 1820)
Baptism Date: 28 jan 1821
Baptism Place: , , Hedmark, NorwayHof
Father: Morten Sorensen
Mother: Olea Ulriksd

For the Karen found by Jan Peter as I above the farm seems to be Floberg?

Thank you for your replies.
The marriage of Ole Gunderson (that lyndal40 posted above) is the correct one. So...the State of Wisconsin marriage record shows Gunder Person. But I am told that Gunner or Gunder are basically the same. And Person and Pederson are the same.

I will look into ALL of the above Karen Mortensdatter suggestions.

The Ole Gunderson born Jan 11 1857 is NOT the correct person.

Now there was a Gunder Pederson in the 1865 Census that lived near Vermunden that certainly is a possibility. However, I can't find anymore information on him either. Perhaps he died? Did he know Karen's future husband, Kristian Henriksen--since he is from Vermunden? Many questions to answer.

Thanks for your help. We continue to look into Karen.

So here is a screenshot of the passenger arrival list in 1870 to Quebec on the Nestorian. Curious name swing to Nilsdatter for at least a brief time.

Yes. We have not been able to figure out how it turned to Nilsdatter. Very strange. Unless perhaps Karen's mothers last name was Nilsdatter???

While looking at the confirmation record for Karen Mortensdatter Nyen in 1835 whose , parents are Morten Sųrensen (Olsen?) and Olia Ulriksdatter I noticed just above her is the confirmation record for Karen Mortensdatter Skjęret Flissundet whose parents are Morten Knutsen and Pernillle Johansdttter.

#36 & 45

This is of course the Karen Mortensdatter who has been suggested several times as the mother of Ole Gunderson, including above by Jan Peter. The farm name Flissundet strikes me as being close in spelling to the farm name Flisstrand where your Karen Mortensdatter was living in the 1865.

1865

The other Karen Mortensdatter is living on Lindberget with her husband Syver Larsen in 1865.

1865

I would venture to guess that your Karen Mortensdatter is likely to be one of the two Karen Mortensdatters confirmed in 1835 and listed on the same page in the Hof parish records. The hard part now is to determine with some degree of confidence which one is your Karen.

We know that the Karen Mortensdatter who married Syver Larsen can not be your Karen as she is living with her husband in the 1891 Census.

1891

Well Barb your may have worked your way through this already and thus are certain that the Karen Mortensdatter who married Syver Larsen is the child of Morten Knudsen. Thus eliminating the Karen Mortensdatter child of Morten Knudsen and Pernille Johnasdatter as your Karen. I would think that this marriage record for Karen Mortensdatter and Syver Larsen from 1846 clinches that conclusion for me as the marriage record lists her father as Morten Knutsen.

#9

Probably came to that same conclusion above from he Ancestry records
