| Thank you for this: the first reference is definitely the right family but the second reference seems to have a different name : my great grandfather was known as Olof Jorgensen MEIER. Any ideas? |

In this document he is listed as an able bodied seaman so I think that Jackie"s comment that he may very well not have any emigration records is relevant.

The earlier record for him in England that I have found is his marriage in 1881.

I also have looked at the 1875 Census posted by Jackie and it is in my opinion the same family as in the 1865 Census. Here are the two 1865 first 1875 second. In 1875 Census you are missing son Kresten. Oluf and Ludvig are at the bottom of the list. The rest is the same family different spellings
