Information about ships from England
stephaniei have successfully found two Norwegian relatives who emigrated from Norway - one in 1903 and one the 1905. One was left Kristiania on 10 July 1903 on the Montebello. The other left Kristiania on 17 Mar 1905 on the Angelo. Both ships were in the Wilson line and their agents were H. Heitmann. But I am lost now when they get to Hull. How do I find out which ship they may have been on when they left England - from Liverpool or London or Southampton or even if it was Glasgow? Any links you know of where I can check?
BorgeYou have to look for the name of the agents of the transatlantic company. H. Heitman was the Wilson Line agent, but they had nothing to do with the transatlantic voyage. The problem, I know - it is the online records at the Digitalarklivet, "Emigrants from Oslo 1867-1930", where they left out the information about the agents when transcribing. On the other database "Emigrants sailing from Kristiania 1871-1930", they did include the information, but 1903 is incomplete, however 1905 is complete, and you should be able to find agent's name there. This leaves you with the option of searching the original lists for 1903 on microfilm to find the information.
stephanietusind tak for hjælpen! I'll see what I can find now in the other database. I WILL track down the name of the ship they were one and where they came into the states (or Canada). I WILL! Thanks. This is a great site.
BriningHave you tried searchin Ellis Island in case they arrived in New York? Here is a link to a site which is easier to use than the actual Ellis Isand site when searching. http://www.jewishgen.org/databases/EIDB/ellis.html Carla
stephaniethank you for the link. I'll try it. I've have searched exhaustively through the ellisisland.org site and basically decided that they must have come into a different harbor - which would make sense, since Ole listed Minnesota as his destination and Sidsel listed N.Dakota as hers. If I could just find the ships they left England from!! Thanks for this link. I'll try it!
theckenLooking for the info on the ship my great grandfather Olie Eidness came over from Bergen to the usa, thank you tina
HopkinsThere appear to be at least 13 males leaving from the port of Bergen, first name starting with 'Ol....' and 'last name' identifier equal to the various Norwegian spelling variations possible for Eidness. When was your great grandfather born? when did he immigrate to the USA? (If you don't already know - check US censuses like the 1900, 1910 and/or 1920 for the area where you know he was living) Is there a particular reason that you tacked your inquiry on the end of this other thread?
