Halvor and Liva Lee
NancyC	I am looking for information on the first wife of Hal(l)vor Larsen Lee. Her name was Liva, and they had one daughter, Mallin, who was 2 years old in 1876. We have found no additional information about her. Halvor was born in Fister, Rogaland, Norway 9 OCT 1842 and died in Morgan Township, ND, June 19,1921. Halvor married Sophia. She was born in Suldal, Rogaland, Norway, 24 FEB 1854 and died in Morgan Township 2 MAY 1938. Halvor and Sophia had 8 children. One of the daughters was obviously named after the first wife: Leva Karina, born 16 APR 1886, died 1970. Liva and Halvor's daughter Mallin married Knut Førre, and they moved back to Norway in 1905. Their children were Chester, Gurina and Lina. Chester went back to the USA at age 17 and later moved to Canada. If anyone has information about Liva, I would appreciate hearing from you!
Brining	Hi I have found Halvor and Sophia in the 1880 census for Traill county Dakota Territory [url="http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1880US_8739507&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=5"]Click Here[/url] It indicates that Malvie(Mallin??) was born in Iowa in 1874. The 1900 census for Morgan township is here [url="http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nd/traill/census/1900/morgan/186-03b.gif"]Click Here[/url] and Halvor is on line 85 (small numbers at left) or location #47. It indicates that Halvor emigrated in 1864 but I wonder if this is correct since I thought I had found him in the 1865 census in Norway. It shows Sophia emigrating in 1875. It looks like Iowa is where to look for Liva since that is where Mallin was born. Do you know what Sophia's fathers name was. We might be able to find her in the emigration records and see where she was going. It would help narrow down the search. Carla
Brining	Hi Well I answered my own question. Sophia's name was Sophia J. Ashiem according to Hatton, Traill County, ND, Index to "Hatton Centennial 1884-1984 at the Trail County rootsweb site. It also has a marriage listing for "Malena H. Lee" and Knud K. Fore. Curiously there is a second marriage listing for Knud [:0] Could be a brother or father I guess. Here is the link to the site http://www.rootsweb.com/~ndtraill/ I think there is a lookup volunteer for the Hatton Centennial. There may be a referance to where in Iowa Halvor came from in the write up. Also there is an address for the Traill County Historical Society. I think they have the info on the marriage records. Maybe it could have some usefull information. Finding where they were in Iowa would help. I did find Sophia (Soffie Johnnesd. Adsheim) in the Norway 1865 census in Hjelmeland, Rogland Norway. NancyC	Thanks for the information you have provided so far. Yes, Sophia's name was Sophia Johannesdotter Aasheim. Her father was Johannes Jakobsen Nariem (?) and her mother Astrid Olsdotter D. Fjeldberg, Suldal. I have rather garbled names for her grandparents, so I will not include them at this time. Liva and Halvor Lee probably lived in Humboldt Co., Iowa, as this is where Sophia and Halvor married 23 JAN 1877. At the time of their marriage, Liva and Halvor's daughter Mallin was ca. 2 years old, but I have no information whether Liva died in childbirth or later. Yes, Knud Førre (Fore) was probably married twice. This has been confirmed by another member of NorwayHeritage. How can one find burial records for Humboldt County from 1875-1876? This would probably provide some answers, and then I could search for Liva in the Norwegian census records.
