Lynne Family from Hadeland
pgundI am searching for information on my Lynne family Genealogy. Here is what I know: OLE OLESEN LYNNE, owner of SVARVERUD (place), KLOVESTAD (farm), GRAN JEVNAKER (parish), HADELAND (district), NORWAY. He was born 9 Oct 1823 in Norway and died in North Dakota or Wisconsin, USA in 1910. He married BERTA MARIA SAMUELSDATTER (2nd marriages for both of them) in Norway. She was born 4 Feb 1842 in ARIVEKA, JILBORGA SOGN, VIRMELAND, SWEDEN. They came over to America in 1887 on a White Star Line ship leaving from Liverpool or Hull, England and arriving on Ellis Island in July. Along with them was my great grandmother CHRISTINA SOPHIA LYNNE. She was born 2 Mar 1877 SVARVERUD, KLOVESTAD, GRAN PRESILAND or GRAN JEVENAKER, HADELAND, NORWAY. Can anyone help me in my quest to find additional information on the Lynne Family? I am mainly looking for information on Ole and Berta's parents and beyond. I do know that Ole's dad name was Ole Lynne and he died along with his wife of cholera in 1833 at the LYNNE FARM, GRANSPRESTILAND, HADELAND, NORWAY. Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated! Paul
pgundJo Ann Are there any passenger lists from Castle Clinton available? I am interested in the White Star Line ship that arrived around July of 1887 which would list Christina Sophia Lynne and her parents Ole Olesen Lynne and Berta Maria.

If your people entered this country through the Port of New York in 1887, they would have been processed at Castle Clinton, not Ellis Island. Hull was a transit port for emigrants, they would take a train to Liverpool or Glascow to board their transatlantic ships.[:D]
Jo Anne SadlerThe records that are available are the Federal Custom Passenger manifests as outlined in the article. Then, as now, when people enter a country, their documents are verified for entrance but there are formal records for this information. The microfilms for these records can be rented through any local Family History Center, www:familysearch.org, or through www.nara.gov. You have the exact dates, it should be very easy for you to verify your information.[xx(]
jwiborgHi, there looks to be several farms called "Lynne" in Gran in the 1801 norw. census. The city/muncipality is Gran, the county is Oppland. 1801 norw. census Note: The name "Hadeland" describes the area/district which are covered by the 3 municipalities Gran, Jevnaker and Lunner. Link to Gran muncipality: http://gran.kommune.no/ And just for the record; the swedish city must be ARVIKA. It's in Värmland county. BriningLynne (Lynneskoven in the 1865 census), Svarverud and Klovestad (Kløvstad) are all farms in Gran. In the 1865 census he is a renter on the Svarverud farm with his 1st wife and family. You should read the article on the home page about Norwegian names to understand the relationship between farm names and "last names" in Norway. Christina was born on the Kløvstad farm. Her baptisim record is Here The baptisim records for Gran are on line Here I looked for Ole but didn't find him. His parents could have been living on a different farm when he was born. When searching, remember the dates are for the baptisim, not birth date. Carla
