| Help Locating of the Algrim farm in Ullensaker |
| Augie | Using the 1875 census I have traced my GG grandfather Andreas Hanssen to the Braaten under Algrim farm. This farm is listed in Listen over gårder er hentet fra "Norske Gaardnavne". -as #111 and #112 Algrem sogn Ullensaker - herred Ullensaker - and amt Akershus. There are other farm names nearby with Algrim or Algrem as part of their name. Andreas changed his name to Algrim upon arrival in the US in 1880. I am trying to locate the farm first of all. I don't know if anyone nearby that could take digital photographs the area and or buildings and send them to me. That is asking a lot.
Information in his obituary says Andreas, his parents, 4 brothers and a sister came over in 1880 and I'm trying to locate ship information as well. Any help would be very much appreciated. |

I did not find any farm by the name of Algrim in the Ullensaker area today. Maybe the spelling has changed....?

A nearby farm (based on the landnumbers), looks to be one called "Stokstad". The farm Stokkstad exists in Ullensaker today, and must be the same farm. You should mention that in the forum...
Where did Andreas Hanssen settle in the US?
I found one "Andreas Hans.", emigrating from Kristiania to to Chicago in 1880; [url="http://129.177.171.80/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=emikra1&variabel=0&postnr=22527&fulle=true&spraak=e"]click here[/url]
He went by the ship "Hero" on June 11th, 1880. He is married, but it looks like he went alone... Could not find anyone called Andreas Algrim.

Some of the owners listed used the last name Algarheim. There is a place called Algarheim today, southwest of the Oslo Guardmoen airport. I found 63 Algarheim's listed in the [url="http://www.gulesider.no/gsi/whiteSearchFront.do?spraak=3&"]Telefonkatalogen[/url] some living in Algarheim. You could try writing. I also found a few e-mail address for Algarheim's at [url="http://www.infospace.com/"]Infospace[/url].
Somewhere I have a link to pictures of farms in Norway. I'll see if I can find it and if Algarheim is listed.
