Hunting Passenger Lists
MorebeckNeed passenger lists of ships Favoriten and Rogaland to NY in June 1850 from Stavanger. Need to know if my ancestors were on board either ship. National Archives film does not cover them. Looking for: Gunsmith,Tobias Christian Torjesen Morbeck; wife Anne Cathrine Raastad Aslaksdatter; daughter Caroline Tomine Morbeck age about 5; daughter Bertine Amalie Morbeck age about 3. Where do I get copy of the ship list??
Jo Anne SadlerMicrofilm #175445 for the passenger lists for June 1850 arriving at the Port of New York can be rented from a local Family History Center, www.familysearch.org.
MorebeckJO Anne, If this is film from the National Archives that has been purchased by SL, I have already searched those films. I did not find the ships but will check again today. Luckily they are in a local library. I was hopeful there is a list from Norway as I had not found them in the NY list. nancy
Jo Anne SadlerDoes your local library have the NY indexes? That may help. In searching Digitalarivet, Stavanger, Rogaland, Emigrants from Stavanger 1825-1970, I found: http://129.177.171.80/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=STAV&spraak=e&metanr=1537 Tobias MorbĘk , 1848, destination Milwaukee.
Jo Anne SadlerHi, I hit the send button too soon. The link doesn't work but in a quick search I could not find other family members. Where did you get the June 1850 date? Did you check other ships on the microfilm for them for this period? Maybe the ships may werechanged, re-routed.[:0]
MorebeckI got the idea from the fact that all the July 1850 ship arrival lists had been searched by me, and I noticed that there were two from Stavanger in 1850 landing in NY in late June which had not been indexed. Tobias in the records of what you sent is just selling his land, I believe, but I will check in Salt Lake when I go there to be sure. The church records that would have his departure from the church is missing for that time period. I think he got rid of his property, then left for America later than intended. I will check all the arrival lists for 1848, but believe I alreay have. I have been working on this for years. I have the ship of his three brothers arrival at different times in US, but not him, our direct line........ Thanks for your help. Anything else you can think of will be also very helpful. THANKS. nan
MorebeckAlso, I did check again for Arrivals to NY and Favoriten and Rogaland are not listed for June 1850 in NY. These are lists from National Archives.... Our local genealogy library just happens to have them. nan
MorebeckJo Anne-- To answer your question more precisely, Jul 1850 NY, is the information for his arrival on his Naturalization papers. But I had checked all the Jul 1850 ship lists and not read his name, and then thought it could have an error and it was late June 1850. That is why I was interested in those two ships that left Stavanger in 1850 to arrive in NY late June 1850. And after checking the National Archives films, those two ships are not on the microfilm. Where to find the ship lists?????
BorgeIf the lists are not on the film it is probably because those lists are among those who did not survive in the archives. Unfortunately some lists have been lost for different reasons. However, I have seen examples on lists that were indexed under the wrong year, and filmed along with the lists for another year.
MorebeckSo are the lists for those two ships somewhere in Stavanger?? When you look at information on the ship, on this site, they have a lot of information on the ships such as trades of the passengers, where they are from. So how do I access this information?? These two ships seemed to go across the ocean for a few years. I guess I can check the following years and see if they are listed in the next few years. Thanks for the information.
